Two New Treads from Bandag Provide Improved Mileage Performance
tyre sidewalls are achieved through the use of a special carcass cord. This highly stable but very flexible material enables the carcass to easily withstand localised high bending loads.
The new rubber compound of the Conti EcoPlus HD3 315/45 R 22.5 provides optimum tread wear with low rolling resistance.
A rubber compound optimised for rolling resistance was also developed for the steering axle tyre Conti EcoPlus HS3 355/50 R 22.5. A special feature of the tread is its two-layer construction ("cap base concept"). The tread cap, with its own rubber compound, ensures optimal contact with the road surface for long service life. The special rubber compound of the tread base, which does not make contact with the road, reduces the heat generated in the crown providing maximum reduction in rolling resistance.
The newly developed profile design of the tyre improves grip in
the wet, a result in part of the tightly interlocking micro-sipes between the longitudinal tread grooves. In addition, the "Plus Volume Pattern" of the Conti EcoPlus HS3 355/50 R 22.5 adds extra material to the tread, reducing the width of the longitudinal tread grooves. In turn the low void area of tread in contact with the road increases, simultaneously improving wear resistance.
Like all of Continental's Generation 3 tyres, the Conti EcoPlus HS3 355/50 R 22.5 and the Conti EcoPlus HD3 315/45 R 22.5 use a retreadable premium carcass featuring the patented AirKeep® inner liner to prevent gradual loss of inflation pressure. Regrooving and retreading give tyres a longer service life with a lower rolling resistance—directly impacting the cost-effectiveness of the fleet. Regrooving indicators are integrated into the tread of both tyres to mark the possible regrooving depth.
Bridgestone have introduced two new tread patterns to supplement their range of Bandag pre-cured
treads.
The BDR-HT4 is a new high- mileage and cost-efficient regional tread designed to cope with tough driving conditions such as changing road surfaces, varying loads and frequent overloading. The tread pattern is claimed to offer 20% better mileage than its predecessor, the BDE2.
The new tread perfectly copes with these requirements and is offers excellent safety to the truck driver, thanks to excellent grip and very good traction in all circumstances.
The Bandag BDR-HT4 tread features Bridgestone’s Tie bar technology as well as an improved sipe design, minimising heel and toe wear. This also gives a longer tyre life, and therefore reduces tyre maintenance costs and tyre noise level.
The second new tread is the Bandag R249, a long haul solution designed for domestic and

Conti Introduce New Tyre Concept for Semitrailer Tractors in Volume Transport
Following the market launch of the new 315/45 R 22.5 drive axle tyre Conti EcoPlus HD3 at the start of the year, Continental has now completed its tyre offering for Lowliners with the new 355/50 R 22.5 steering axle tyre Conti EcoPlus HS3. Together, these two low-profile tyres represent a new tyre concept for towing vehicles. They enable fleet operators to make optimum use of the maximum 3-metre internal load height of their trailers without exceeding the maximum overall height of four metres permitted by law.
In addition to their high load capacity, these two tyres from the Conti EcoPlus family, which are specially designed for long- distance use and regional transportation with frequent use
of freeways, also offer maximum service life and high fuel efficiency.
With their low diameters, these two low-profile tyres effectively lower the fifth-wheel height of the towing vehicle to ensure that the permitted external height is not exceeded, even when the internal load height is fully utilised. With a diameter of 934 mm, the steering axle tyre Conti EcoPlus HS3 355/50 R 22.5 offers a load- carrying capacity of 8 tons. The drive axle tyre Conti EcoPlus HD3 315/45 R 22.5, with a diameter of just 852 mm, has an axle load of 11.6 tons in twin fitment. Using the "0° technology" during the construction of the belt allows for high load capacity in the Conti EcoPlus HD3 315/45 R 22.5 and narrower drive axle

international travel, resulting in excellent touring characteristics: a high degree of reliability and stability for safe driving in all conditions, low noise for increased passenger comfort, and up to 15% better tyre life than the BZA tread it replaces.
  Hankook Extends Alphatread Range
Hankook has extended its alphatread, retreaded tyre range with the addition of the popular size 315/70R22.5 which was made available from January 2015.
The Hankook alphatread R-DH05 drive axle tyre for medium haul is now available in three sizes 295/80R22.5, 315/80R22.5 and now the 315/70 R22.5. With its wide outline and a unique compound the R-DH05 provides excellent wet and
dry performance, driving stability and long lasting wear. While the extra wide tread and deep grooves ensure high mileage, the optimised block shape provides block rigidity also under heavy loads for an outstanding traction and tread stability. Its lateral oriented tread design with high density grooves help to provide excellent traction in all weather conditions.
