MWSD Expands Presence in Scotland with Drummond Distribution Partnership
Shanks Selects Vacu-Lug for its Commercial Vehicles
Following a thorough tender process, Shanks Waste Management Ltd has selected Vacu-Lug Traction Tyres Ltd to manage its commercial vehicles and mobile plant and machinery tyres for various recycling centres throughout the UK.
Using Vacu-Lug’s web-based VMS software programme, each Shanks vehicle is individually managed to provide a full monitoring, repair and tyre husbandry service. This includes Shanks’ entire fleet of delivery and collection vehicles, including roll-on-roll- off hook-lifts with drawbar trailers and a mixture of plant and OTR wheeled equipment.
Shanks’ UK Plant and Vehicles Manager, Chris Byrne said; “During several months of stringent evaluation, Vacu- Lug came out best for service level agreements and overall value. Now, after the first 3-month review, I’m pleased to say our ongoing objective to reduce vehicle downtime has been achieved and we expect to maintain exceptional response and repair times going forward.”
For added financial and operational control, the VMS system records and notifies Vacu-Lug’s network of independent
service providers of the designated tyre policy for each contracted vehicle and validates supplier invoices against any authorised work. In turn, the system creates accurate invoicing in line with all contractual terms.
Byrne continued; “The VMS fleet management solution from Vacu-Lug includes the provision of high quality new and retread tyres and helps to ensure full compliance with Shanks tyre policies and the law. Furthermore, through ongoing analysis of tyre data via the VMS web portal, we can identify any potential high-cost areas while keeping a close eye on vehicle budgets.”

Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has partnered up with Drummond Distribution to offer Scottish customers next-day delivery on its most popular commercial vehicle wheel sizes. Covering Chevron Steel as well as Xlite and new Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels, the service will cover over 90% of orders received before 4pm. More uncommon sizes and specifications will be supplied via MWSD’s Manchester warehouse with delivery within two-three days. Established in 1927, Drummond Distribution is one of Scotland’s longest established regional distribution companies. Situated between Edinburgh and Glasgow, the company operates over 80 vehicles and employs more than 140 staff.
