longevity and durability from every Michelin tyre we fit; it’s particularly noticeable on the RCV fleet, which is arguably the toughest on tyres. “Although the RCVs don’t do high mileages, they carry out some of the most demanding work and risk coming into frequent contact with the kerb during daily collections. In our experience the Michelin fitments offer better damage resistance and last longer than the tyres we fitted previously. This not only means extended replacement intervals, it reduces wheel interventions and fleet downtime,” he adds.
The RCVs are used intensively for up to eight hours a day, five days a week, collecting refuse and recycling materials from across the city for delivery to waste transfer stations. The Michelin policy sees technicians from ATS Euromaster’s Southampton

The technicians also regroove as many tyres as possible, extending tyre life by up to 25 per cent each time to make full use of the additional layers of base rubber built into all new Michelin truck tyres. Once the regrooved tyre has worn, it is retreaded by Michelin into a Remix tyre – providing almost identical performance to that of a new Michelin truck tyre – whilst reducing environmental impact and raw material consumption.

too. One such company is Asda PLC, part of the Walmart Group of Companies, who have now agreed to a new long-term agreement on the management of their tyre supply and administration.
The new agreement sees Bandvulc and Tyre Maintenance Ltd combine to deliver products, services and administration for Asda’s LGV and Dot.com fleet across the UK.
For Asda, Sean Clifton commented “The total offer from Bandvulc encompassed both van and commercial and this inclusive package combined with bringing new green credentials to the Dot.com operations, provided a firm

Bridgestone’s Delight at Downton deal
Bridgestone has extended its fleet agreement with CM Downton, one of the UK’s largest privately owned third party logistics companies, with a new five year PPK deal.
The new deal is based on Bridgestone’s Total Tyre Care package, which aims to offer more miles on the road per-tyre than its competitors. Bridgestone’s commercial sales Director Greg Ward said: “We are naturally thrilled to have reached this agreement with CM Downton and we will strive to keep on improving on our results to date.
“The business has established itself at
the forefront of a highly competitive industry and we see it as a massive coup to have been chosen to provide tyre solutions for the team, not least when competition was so high.” Richard Downton said: “We are delighted that this partnership is proving so beneficial for us and it was an easy decision for us to make in the end.
“Our ongoing relationship with Bridgestone is helping us to raise industry standards and we look forward to building on this joint collaboration.”
Michelin solutions Signs Up National Express
Officials at Southampton City Council have shaved more than 10 per cent off the annual tyre bill for their 460-strong fleet after a move to fitting premium Michelin tyres has extended replacement intervals.
The decision to fit Michelin began in April 2013 and saw an immediate tyre spend reduction of 11 per cent for the year 2013-2014, versus the previous policy, which had seen a mixture of different brands fitted. In the following year, 2014-2015, Southampton City Council’s tyre spend dropped by nearly three per cent more, as greater numbers of Michelin tyres were rolled out.
In total, tyre expenditure has dropped from £127,807.87 in 2012-2013, to just £110,656.43 in 2014-2015, with savings projected to continue into 2016.
The council runs a total of 360 vans, 37 refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), 17 heavy goods vehicles, 13 minibuses, six road sweepers and four cars – which are each included on the policy and deliver vital services across the city.
Southampton City Council’s Fleet Services Systems Administrator, Alfonso Mata, explains: “All local authorities are working hard to maximise value from their budgets
