Compass Royston Coach Hire Benefits from Giti Winter Tyre
Goodyear has signed a three-year deal to become title sponsor and tyre supplier to the British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC). The partnership has evolved following Goodyear’s positive involvement with the European truck racing championship (ETRC).

BTRC said, “The addition of Goodyear as our title sponsor is a real boost to our Championship, not only because Goodyear have a proven track record in developing truck racing tyres, but also because of their reputation as leaders in innovation and new technologies. The title sponsorship will lift the profile of truck racing in the UK and expose the BTRC to a new audience, we are looking forward to welcoming them to our fan base.”
Compass Royston Coach Hire has been profiting from GT’s first specific marked winter tyre
Goodyear has now signed a deal lasting 3 years to become the title sponsor and tyre supplier to the BTRC.
Giti Tire’s first specific winter marked tyre, the Giti GSW226 has proven its extreme weather credentials during a nine-day trip to Switzerland and Austria for Compass Royston. Stockton-on-Tees-based Compass Royston, which undertakes transport for schools, travel operators and counts Middlesbrough and Hartlepool United Football Clubs among its many sport clients, decided to trial the tyre based on brand feedback from its sister companies, Esk Valley Coaches and Proctors Coaches.
For the trip the company selected a DAF Berkhof Axial Mk3, which carries 57 passengers and has a load capacity of 18,000kg, and operated with 315/80R22.5 across all six positions. One of the many tyres which are being rebranded to Giti from GT Radial, the size has benefitted from an increased load index to 158/150L (154/150M), with all four sizes being three peak mountain snowflake (3PMSF) accredited.
Martin Bainbridge, Transport Manager at Compass Royston, said: “We have primarily used various premium manufacturers for our overseas winter routes, but with
feedback from our sister companies who operate with the tyres year- round, and our great relationship with the regional salesman, we decided to put Giti to the test. Workshop Manager added Gary Buxton; “The feedback from the workshop and the drivers is nothing but positive. The main observation is the excellent road handling in both snow and ice, but also it was noted how good they perform when the roads were simply dry or wet.”
The Giti GSW226 is designed for coach operators, hauliers and gritter fleets who need to meet UK and trans-European winter road regulations. Classed as a high traction steer and trailer axle tyre, it is available in 315/70R22.5, 315/80R22.5, 385/55R22.5 and 385/65R22.5. The load index ranges from 156/150 (154/150) to 164K (160L). The tyre offers all-season capabilities and decent performance in severe winter conditions including snowy, icy and wet roads. It has been designed with a wide shoulder groove to deliver optimum handling and stability and utilises an advanced compound for high mileage potential.
dedicated following in almost 50 countries, the championship offers Goodyear opportunities to be exposed to a new audience and build its brand presence. Along with extensive branding across the trucks and championship’s circuits, the brand will benefit from exposure on Motors TV.
Commenting on Goodyear’s sponsorship, Steve Thomas from
Marc Preedy, Commercial Director Goodyear UK&I, explained the benefits of the title sponsorship for BTRC. “Driving our brand equity and spontaneous awareness with consumers is vitally important. As well as giving us valuable data on our new technological innovations we will also be exposed to a new audience which will help us to build and grow our customer base.”

Pirelli to Sponsor Emirates Team New Zealand in America’s Cup
Pirelli and the Emirates Team New Zealand have announced that they have signed a partnership agreement for the America’s Cup 2017. Pirelli will be the official sponsor of the 2- time winner of the world’s premier sailing competition, which this year will take place from May 26 to June 26 in Bermuda.
The Pirelli logo will feature on the boat and its rudders, which for the occasion will become a metaphor for the tyre. Just as the tyre, in fact, ensures a vehicle’s performance and control, so does the rudder guarantee the mastery of the vessel. Taking part
on this sporting challenge underlines the link between Pirelli, which sponsors 350 motor championships in the world, including F1, and racing, be it on the track, road or sea. Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli CEO and executive Vice President says: “The sponsorship of the Emirates New Zealand adds to the already rich portfolio of high profile sporting collaborations which Pirelli, has and which has grown ever richer in recent months, even beyond motor competitions, with the goal of strengthening the brand’s positioning at the high end of the market”.
