premises, the four half-day workshops were created in collaboration with driver training specialist Junction 17 Defensive Driver Training Ltd, and offer tuition in four key areas: tyre identification, wear and damage patterns, wheel security and tyre maintenance.
Using a combination of in-classroom theoretical learning and hands-on practical experience, delegates can get to grips with tyre construction and spotting unusual tyre damage, to the importance of maintaining accurate tyre pressures, while working towards their periodic training requirements. Each module in the course builds towards a solid understanding of the key components of vehicle walkaround checks.
Carl Williams, from the Michelin Training Centre, says: “We’re conscious that some CPC courses aren’t very engaging. That’s why we’ve developed interactive, hands-on sessions that will get people out of their seats. When you combine that approach with the unparalleled knowledge of the tutors,
tyres won’t cause an O-licence breach.” Spaces are limited to 20 delegates on the courses, each led by one of Michelin’s five full-time instructors, who have all been trained by the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development. For companies wishing to host their own training days, bespoke onsite modules can be arranged.
The Driver CPC courses join a comprehensive portfolio of workshops on offer at the Michelin Training Centre, many with City & Guilds and REACT accreditation. Courses cover all aspects and roles in the tyre industry, from fitting and technical courses for technicians, through to management training for tyre dealer depot managers and business owners.
Established for more than 25 years, the Michelin Training Centre attracts delegates from across the UK and Ireland. Its fully-equipped premises feature six lecture rooms, workshops and test vehicles to work on, an IT suite, mocked up tyre dealer premises, and video and role-play facilities.

Zenises and Doublestar Join Forces for Strategic Partnership
A solid step in Doublestar’s aspirations to strengthen its position in the global tyre industry has taken place with the formation of a new operational joint venture in partnership with the Zenises Group. The new company, Doublestar Europe, will be responsible for the sale, marketing and distribution of Doublestar commercial and passenger tyres in key European territories (including Germany, France, Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom).
Doublestar is already one of China’s leading tyre manufacturers with a track record of strong growth. Most recently, the establishment of its new ‘4.0’ industry leading production plant in Qingdao allows the company to increase its European
footprint, with regard to both volume capacity and new product development.
For the Zenises Group, this new JV relationship represents a powerful opportunity to build on its longstanding presence in the European tyre arena and offer commercial partners the opportunity to work with a forward- thinking tyre provider. It is also now the intention of the new Doublestar Europe company to grow the brand in the high-performance passenger tyre segment, building on these technological advancements made by the company over recent years. The new Doublestar Europe venture will be established in London (U.K.) with its own dedicated support and business development team.

Lap Challenge
Northampton Saints recently teamed up with their sponsor, Hankook Tyre UK, for the 2017 Hankook Power Lap Challenge. In an event exclusive to social media competition winners, 80 members of the public gained elite access to the Franklin’s Gardens Sturridge Suite to meet their favourite players. As guests collected autographs and photos, the players competed head-to-head for the fastest lap on Forza 6.
Cheered on by the crowd and ‘Bernie’, the Saints mascot, the competition culminated in a ‘battle of brothers’ final, with Saints prop Alex Waller eventually taking the crown. Four lucky golden ticket holders were also called up to compete; with 14-year-old George Funnell claiming victory and taking home the team’s signed Xbox One.
