Michelin Launch X Force ZL Range
with a depth of 22 millimetres (9 7/8, 10 2/8, 10 5/8 inches wide, with a depth of 27.5/32) In addition to this, for the 280 millimetre width the company offers 20 millimetres depth (11 inches wide, 27.5/32inches in depth). According to Galgo, this is one of the best options for the retreading market because it offers great mileage in regional applications. Its grooved block design is aligned to the tyre rotation, which helps decrease rolling resistance. These blocks offer greater traction for muddy or snowy roads. It also has union bridges between blocks, helping reduce irregular wear (toe- heel).
Finally, the company has introduced
the new APL (All Position Regional Light) tread design, featuring a continuous shoulder rib tread. This design feature contributes greatly to the design’s low rolling resistance, high mileage performance, and uniform tread wear.
The APL tread is claimed to be an excellent tread option for tyre retreading because it offers greater security and mileage due to the high contact on the road. In addition, it offers the retreading market a light tread design option, which helps prevent a higher casing fatigue during operation.
It is available in widths ranging from 230 to 260 millimetres and 30% less depth than the APR design.
Operators of military and civilian all-terrain trucks, including airport fire tenders, can enjoy payload advantages with Michelin’s new X Force ZL – off-road, deep tread
tyres, which offer the highest tyre load-carrying capacity on the market.
Designed for commercial vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of 7-13 tonnes, the new X Force ZL 335/80 R 20 tyres have a load capacity of 3,350kg per tyre – an increase of 775kg over the previous generation, and at least 100kg more than competing products.
Michelin X Force ZL tyres allow
payloads to increase by up to 400kg-plus per vehicle, without compromising the tyres’ speed rating of up to 68mph (110kph), and while still providing great
performance in the challenging off- road conditions faced by forestry, utility and fire service vehicles. The tyre range’s damage resistance capabilities have also been enhanced with a new casing construction and reinforced crown area, while a series of 1mm-deep trapezoidal blocks in the shoulder and sidewall give additional support and protection, without compromising casing flexibility.
As the requirements of Euro VI emissions legislation leads to increased vehicle weight for civilian trucks, and military vehicles get heavier due to increased armour, operators have a considerable payload challenge to overcome, while still ensuring maximum
mobility in extreme off-road conditions. Guaranteed mobility is essential – and immobilisation can be very costly.
The new X Force ZL meets all these challenges, providing run-flat capabilities exceeding the military protocol test requirements, by achieving more than four hours of continued mobility and a distance of more than 62 miles.
Next Generation Xbrite+ Forged Aluminium Wheels Reach European Market
Michelin’s X Force ZL
Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) has confirmed the launch of the next generation Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels, all manufactured at Wheels India’s upgraded multi- million pound production facility. In the advanced production process a polished Xlite forged aluminium wheel goes through
production facility allowing far deeper penetration of the forged aluminium which in turn results in unrivalled aesthetics, performance and longevity.”
Xlite and Xbrite+ are spin forged from a single aluminium billet, a unique manufacturing process using a CNC machine to produce a higher degree of production

several automated treatment stages to permeate the metal deeper, ensuring high levels of corrosion resistance and shine with no tarnishing or flaking. MWSD has exclusive distribution rights for the supply of Xlite and Xbrite+ forged aluminium wheels throughout Europe. Matt Mardle, Chief Operating Officer at MWSD, said: “The latest generation of the Xbrite+ is a marked advancement on its predecessors, with the new
accuracy and a truer running wheel. Xlite is available in machined and polished finishes. All wheels are available in 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5 inch sizes.
The ultimate advantages of operating with forged aluminium wheels including extra payloads, reduced diesel usage, decreased CO2 emissions and less wear on surrounding parts, including expensive components such as tyres and brakes.
New Treads from Galgo
Galgo has expanded its range of tread patterns with a number of new designs.
Firstly the Mexican tread manufacturer has expanded its super wide base design portfolio for Long Haul applications with the new SRL tread (Super Single Rib Light). The new tread has a 295 mm width (11 5/8”), and a 10.5
mm depth (13/32”).
According to Galgo the SRL tread is one of the best choices for tyres such as the 385/65R22.5, being ideal for free axles. A six rib tread with outer rounded ribs, helps improve resistance to scrubbing and tearing in the shoulder area as well as providing excellent millage for long haul applications.
Due to its shallow depth the SRL design helps diminish
wear and tyre fatigue, whilst its low rolling
resistance design helps the carrier in terms of
fuel savings.
Next, in order to meet the needs of
the market, Galgo has introduced the new WGT tread (Winter Grooved Traction) for regional applications. This tread is offered in four different sizes, which are: 250,
260, 270 millimetres wide,
