Trelleborg Receives SIMA Innovation Award Gold Medal
Trelleborg Unveils New
VF1050/50R32 TM3000
Trelleborg has been awarded the gold medal at the 2017 SIMA Innovation Awards for its soon-to- launch Variable Inflation Pressure VIP system. Developed in partnership with leading tractor manufacturer AGCO FENDT, the VIP system is a smart and autonomous complete wheel capable of self-adjusting the pressure of a combine harvester’s tyre, according to its precise load
commented: “Precision farming technologies are, today, in use across over 5% of cultivated land which is projected to reach 20% within the next decade. As a result, driverless machines and robots connected with the Internet of Things (IoT) are fast becoming a reality in modern agriculture, helping farmers to produce more, with less.”
Mancinelli continues; “At Trelleborg, we have looked to establish the role of the agricultural tyre in the precision farming and the IoT framework, and have invested significant time and resource to further enhance the potential of these innovative technologies. The VIP system does exactly that. It is a smart, intelligent, self-adjustable variable inflation pressure system capable to determine and adopt the right pressure at the right time, in the right place.”
The VIP system consists of a set of sensors measuring several parameters including load, pressure, temperature along with an electronic central processor controlling a compressor and a valve to adjust the pressure. The system is directly integrated on the tyre rim.
“By determining and adopting the right tyre pressure without manual intervention, farmers can reduce soil compaction over 10 percent, resulting in a five percent higher crop yield. This can be achieved while allowing full connectivity with the farm network, mainframe as well as VIP App interface and machine fleet. We are continuing to test the VIP system in the field for several crops in the most demanding applications prior its official concept launch at the 2017 SIMA Exhibition in Paris from 26 February to 2 March 2017,” concluded
Mancinelli.
Spreader Tyre
Trelleborg has unveiled a new size of tyre in its TM3000 range for spreader applications, the VF1050/50R32 with ProgressiveTraction technology, at the National Farm Machinery Show in Louisville, U.S and at SIMA 2017 in Paris, France.
Showcasing Trelleborg’s commitment to sustainable farming, the VF1050/50R32, a new size in the TM3000 range, has been developed to provide farming professionals with increased productivity, lowering overall operating costs while still respecting the environment in line with Trelleborg BlueTire technology. The VF1050/50R32 offers the benefits of the VF construction and a D rated load index. Compared to standard options in the market, the VF construction allows the machine to carry up to 40 percent more load at the same pressure or to inflate the tyre with up to 40 percent less
pressure while carrying the same load. This means that the spreader can carry up to 13,200 kg (29,100 lbs) at 3.6 bar (or 52 psi).
Lorenzo Ciferri, Marketing Director at Trelleborg Agricultural and Forestry Tyres, commented: “The new generation of spreader machines show an increasing need for carrying higher load while constantly reducing the contact pressure on the field to limit soil compaction during spreading operations.”
Another important feature is the adoption of Trelleborg ProgressiveTraction technology which not only increases traction, but helps protect the tyre from stubble damage and improves road wear resistance and comfort. In addition, the rounded shoulder of the tread, makes the VF1050/50R32 respectful on soil and grassland, and improves machine handling.
Tyre Pressure Monitoring Takes the Field
Agriculture and groundcare specialist, Spaldings, has partnered with tyre pressure monitoring specialis, TyrePal to supply tyre pressure monitoring systems (TPMS) to
its customers in
the agricultural
sector. The TPMS
can be attached to
tractor or trailer
tyres to help
farmers increase
safety, as well as
reduce downtime
and the risk of an
expensive tyre
blow out.
Spaldings is a
direct distributor
into agriculture
and groundcare, offering a range of 10,000 products to its 30,000 agricultural and 4,000 groundcare customers. Spaldings now stocks a range of four TyrePal tyre pressure monitoring products, TCSE External Sensors, TCSF Flow-Through Sensors, Smart Signal Repeaters and the In-Cab Monitor.
“Tyre pressure monitoring systems help protect tractors and trailers while they are on the road and in the fields. For tractors, the benefit of TPMS extends beyond the usual improvements in tyre life, safety and efficiency,”
explained Nigel Whelan, head of product development for Spaldings. “Running a tractor in the field with incorrect pressures can be very costly to the farmer
by increasing soil compaction and reducing traction.”
“TyrePal was the obvious choice of partner, particularly as it offers the flow-through sensors. This means the sensors don’t need to be removed from the valve to inflate the tyre,” continued Whelan.
“Spaldings is a one stop shop for the agricultural industry. Stocking TPMS is a logical decision for the business as it offers safety and operational benefits,” explained Peter Tillotson, business development manager of TyrePal.
