Callinan Coaches Adopts TyrePal’s TPMS
Rotala Match Up with EFFITIRES
Callinan Coaches has appointed TyrePal to supply a remote tyre pressure monitoring system for its fleet in both Ireland and the UK. TeleTPMS can reduce the time
needed for drivers to conduct walk- round checks, since fleet managers can monitor tyre pressure and temperature, as well as vehicle location, remotely, with the system providing drivers with immediate feedback on the vehicles in a fleet. So, how does TyrePal’s TPMS work? The smart sensors on each wheel monitor and transmit temperature, pressure and location data to an online portal. The colour-coded system is easy to use and gives at-a-
glance information to fleet managers on the status of a vehicle’s tyres. Users can also access data when they are out of the office through a tablet or web application.
“TeleTPMS has great potential for the coach industry, particularly because it benefits fleet managers as well as passengers,” explained Tommy Callinan, founder of Callinan Coaches. “We chose TyrePal’s TeleTPMS so we could continue to provide our customers with safe and efficient coach travel."
Peter Tillotson, Business Development Manager of TyrePal says; “Currently, there is no legislation for tyre pressure monitoring for coaches. Daily checks must be made before a journey, but this doesn't protect from punctures that occur during the day. TyrePal’s TeleTPMS system alerts managers on the portal, by text or by e-mail alert if the status of a tyre in their fleet changes, so they can resolve the situation before there is any serious damage.”
Bus operator Rotala has signed up to Michelin solutions’ EFFITIRES tyre management programme to take care of its 650 single- and double-deckers. The five-year pence-per-mile contract covers the combined fleet of Rotala’s five subsidiary bus operations: Diamond Bus, Diamond Bus North West, Hallmark Connections, Preston Bus and Wessex Bus, plus a number of smaller companies and local transport firms.
Simon Dunn, Rotala’s Chief Executive, says: “Rotala has expanded rapidly, acquiring fleets and operations around the country; as such, we’ve also acquired a number of different tyre policies and supply networks. This situation became something of a headache, and we quickly realised that Rotala needed one, unified, efficient programme to handle our tyre management requirements around the country leading us to the EFFITIRES solution.”
The company will maintain a shared action plan, developed with Rotala and its five brands, to ensure
continued harmonised operations, which eases the administrative burden of managing a diverse, widespread and busy fleet.
Dunn adds: “The support of Michelin solutions’ ‘embedded’ account team is invaluable, as are the regular, in-depth reports the programme generates.”
Under the EFFITIRES contract, Michelin solutions will supply the company’s premium fitments to Rotala, whose tyre fitters will handle all replacement work in- house. Michelin solutions will also carry out fleet-wide tyre safety inspections as part of the agreement, ensuring Rotala is getting the most from its Michelin fitments in terms of safety, longevity and durability.
Rotala’s fleet sports a variety of high-quality Michelin urban bus tyres, which feature reinforced sidewalls to protect against kerbing and cut down on wheel interventions and downtime.
