Buckleigh Linen Services Benefit from TyrePal
Buckleigh Linen Services are a Devon-based company, which supplies clean linen, work uniforms and chef-wear in bulk to local businesses on a regular basis. The company has customers in Cornwall, Devon and Somerset.
In April 2015, Buckleigh's transport manager, Nigel Denford, attended the Commercial Vehicle (CV) Show on the hunt for a system that would reduce the amount of downtime the company was experiencing due to tyre faults. Denford also wanted to improve fuel consumption and driver safety.
Buckleigh had recently reviewed its fleet replacement policy, which
technology. The TPMS was simple to install and easy to use, plus it offered real-time access to all the data we needed,” said Denford.
Buckleigh purchased the TyrePal system, which transmits the tyre temperature and pressure data of up to 22 tyres at 433 Mhz. The in-cab monitor gives clear alerts for air loss, low pressure, high pressure and high temperature. The monitor is powered by an internal lithium battery, recharged from the vehicle's power supply. It has a robust articulated mount that can be attached to the windscreen with a strong suction pad, permanently attached to the dashboard with a
savings each year.
Howard Tenens’ director and company secretary Ben Morris said: “The results certainly exceeded my expectations on the results. They proved that the life of the Ecopia tyre is much more than the industry believes to be the case. To gain a forecast of 2/3rds the life of a normal tyre - for a nominal cost increase of around £30 per tyre – is
compelling. And a predicted saving of around £2,500 per vehicle over
three years, based on current fuel prices, is a substantial amount once you start spreading it over a whole fleet.”
Bridgestone’s commercial product and marketing manager Andy Mathias said: “Howard Tenens are a very forward thinking fleet, an early adopter of technology and an active member of the FTA’s Low Carbon Reduction Scheme, which we have supported for many years.”

resulted in the purchase of its vehicles instead of using contract hire. This brought a change to the company's tyre replacement policy, which had previously been handled by the contract hire provider. As a result, Buckleigh made the decision to fit tyre pressure monitoring systems to all of its vehicles and trailers.
“TyrePal provided a demo of its tyre pressure monitoring system and explained the benefits its clients reported after implementing the
screw fitting or hardwired.
Denford added; “The system also provides our drivers with all of the information they need to carry out a safe delivery service for themselves and other road users. time spent conducting out walk-around checks is reduced, as all of the information is available from the driver's seat. Over the next year, we're hoping to see a reduction in fuel consumption across our fleet, increased tyre life and a drop-in downtime caused by blowouts and tyre failure."
Shandong Jinyu Group chose the recently concluded CITEXPO 2016 in Shanghai to unveil its two new truck and bus radial (TBR) tyres. Global Sales Division (Shanghai) Sales Manager Harry Du said both patterns were designed especially for long haul operation.
Available in 315/80R22.5, the EG811 was said to deliver powerful driving force and longer life span. The other new pattern,
EGT66, featured 4 straight
wide grooves design that
provided excellent
handling, safety and
drainage. Longer mileage
was achieved with its wear
resistant rubber compound
and optimised pattern
design. Its optimised tyre
shoulder and unique
notch pattern design
effectively reduced
abnormal tyre wear. This
tyre was available in 385/65R22.5.
“These new tyre will be available soon in the European market. Established in 1976, Jinyu Group today has become the world’s 18th largest tyre manufacturer and a key international player in the tyre industry with a full range of premium quality tyre products,” said Du.
Since the launch of the Evergreen brand by the company in the global market, he said the company was now distributing its products under this brand name to more than 100 countries.
“We have two factories with a combined production capacity of 26 million passenger car tyres and 3 million TBR tyres annually,” he added.
Howard Tenens ‘Roll with it’ with Bridgestone
Attitudes towards fuel saving tyres can range from the cynical to the disinterested amongst some commercial fleets, with a mistaken belief that the more expensive products don’t necessarily return the value for money to justify the spend. But these perceptions might soon be a thing of the past, due to a tyre trial with Howard Tenens, where Bridgestone’s low rolling resistance Ecopia tyres returned savings which are hard to ignore.
The privately owned logistics
company pitted Bridgestone’s Ecopia HS1 (steer) and HD1 (drive) products against its R-STEER and M729 (drive) tyres for 134 days. The savings in fuel, owing to the NanoPro-Tech compound, which reduces energy loss in the top compound as the tyre rotates, amounted to 2.11% for the vehicle in question. Extrapolating the results over the size of the fleet, by using the Bridgestone Ecopia product, Howard Tenens can actually save more than £133,246.00 in fuel
