particularly cold-resistant (low Tg) synthetic rubber material ensures that the tread compound does not harden, even in extremely low outdoor temperatures, and thus retains good winter characteristics. The special tread compound has a favourable impact on mileage performance and rolling resistance. Due to the composition structure of the Smart Control line, belt
movements can be reduced to a minimum, resulting in overall cooler-running tyre temperatures and therefore improved fuel- efficiency. In addition, Hankook’s SCCT (Stiffness Control Contour Theory) technology guarantees an optimised contour for good handling, and the advanced bead wire tread allows it to be retreaded.
AME International has introduced a new product called the Wedgie. The Wedgie is a tyre bead wedge and is used to assist in breaking beads on earthmover, agricultural,
metal contact; preserving the wheel from marring. The product is sold separately and is available in cases of 16. AME International suggest that it should be used with their 8

Dunlop’s New On-road Truck Tyres Mobilise Fleets for Winter
Dunlop’s brand new on-road truck tyres the SP346 and SP446 for long and regional haul applications have been designed specifically for winter conditions. Both SP346 steer tyres and SP446 drive tyres carry the 3-Peak-Mountain- Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, as well as the M+S marking, meaning that they comply with the most stringent European requirements for truck winter tyres.
“None of us know what’s ahead in terms of winter weather
so it is essential to be
prepared for all
possibilities,” said Benjamin Willot,
Director Marketing Commercial Tyres Goodyear Europe
Middle, East and Africa. “Trucks that are stuck because they do not
have the correct equipment in terms of tyres can result in failed deliveries and at worst lost contracts. Our new Dunlop on-road tyres offer high winter
mobility so the risk of being caught out by unpredictable weather is very limited. In
addition, fleet operators can benefit from 10% higher mileage and improved fuel economy
of these tyres compared to their predecessors.”
As well as offering higher
mileage and lower fuel consumption than its predecessor, the SP344, the tread design of the Dunlop SP346 steer tyre meets the 3PMSF EU homologation requirements for truck snow tyres and the M+S marking. The increased flexibility of the tread blocks, due to the deep sipes, allows better snow compaction. The high frequency zig zag sipes simultaneously target low wear, winter performance and aim high
in terms of wet grip, with the tread pattern being maintained throughout its life until it is ready for regrooving.
The Dunlop SP446 drive tyre also offers higher mileage than its previous version, the SP444, whilst also lowering fuel consumption. It also delivers good traction in all conditions thanks to the ‘raindrop’ shape of the base of the sipes, helping achieve both M+S and 3PMSF requirements and reducing

the stresses around the bottom of the sipes.
SP346 and SP446 tyres can be additionally be retreaded as Dunlop TreadMax SP446 mould cure retreads, using the same tread patterns and similar materials as the new tyres. This means that the performance of the retreads is close to that of the new tyres, including their full winter capabilities.
construction and forestry tyres. With a simple yet effective wedge design, the Wedgie allows for a bead breaker to fit between tyre and wheel. The Wedgie’s high impact nylon material prevents metal on

“The Wedgie is a simple solution to a problem that many tyre fitters have in the field,” said AME International’s President, Keith Jarman.
Hankook Reveal Specialist Winter Tyre for Truck Trailers
Hankook have presented a new specialist winter tyre for truck trailers: the SmartControl TW01. Alongside the existing steering and drive axle tyres of the
series, Hankook can now offer customers a complete winter solution. The SmartControl
TW01 is

sizes to follow.
The

complements
Hankook’s

line, which already includes the SmartControl AW02 for steering axles and the SmartControl DW07 for drive axles. Like both of these tyres, the new SmartControl TW01 has the M+S marking and the “Three Peak Mountain Snowflake” (3PMSF) symbol, making it well suited for winter conditions.
The inner three ribs of the 5-rib tread on this new winter specialist are equipped with Multi-3D sipes which guarantee good braking
performance on wet, snow and ice covered roads. They also provide the
tread blocks with a decent degree of
stability, resulting in uniform tread wear and increased
mileage and fuel efficiency. The four
main tread grooves, which are designed in
a zigzag pattern, provide lateral stability.
In addition, they ensure optimal water
displacement, reducing the risk of aquaplaning on wet or
slushy roads. Solid, sipeless shoulder blocks on both outer tread ribs of the SmartControl TW01 provide stability and excellent grip on both wet and dry roads, as well as high mileage performance. Furthermore, the rubber compounds of the SmartControl TW01 are specifically designed for wintry conditions. The addition of a
