Maxion Wheels Showcase MaxSmart and Gen34
Maxion Wheels unveiled a couple of new products at the 66th International Motor Show IAA Commercial Vehicle trade fair in the form of MaxSmart and the Gen34. MaxSmart is the industry’s first commercial vehicle connected wheel safety technology, combining Maxion’s steel wheels with sensor technology to capture and
support prevention of accidents, and avoidance of expensive vehicle repairs,” said Pieter Klinkers, Chief Executive Officer, Maxion Wheels. “Maxion Wheels’ MaxSmart wheel uses the kinetic energy from the wheels’ motion to continu
ously power the sensors that are collecting and communicating wheel load, clamp force to the axle, and
tyre pressure and temperature. This information is uploaded to both the vehicle and cloud, providing vehicle safety intelligence to both driver and fleet.” Additionally, Maxion Wheels revealed another new product closer to their historical wheel manufacturing heart with their new steel wheel, the Gen34. Weighing in at 34 kilogrammes the 22.5” x 9.0” wheel, is claimed to be the lightest steel wheel available to truck OEM’s in the market today. The company believes it is on track to deliver a 30-kilogramme steel wheel by 2020. “We know a key concern of our OEM customers is the reduction of C0
emissions, as European vehicle manufactures continue to tackle the aggressive targets set forth by the European Commission,” said Klinkers. “Reducing vehicle weight is a key strategy because lighter trucks mean less fuel, and that equates to fewer emissions. Through sophisticated design and use of global manufacturing techniques, more than five kilogrammes of steel
were eliminated over the last few years, without sacrificing either product reliability or durability. That represents a savings of approximately 35- 40 kilos on a vehicle.”
Klinkers continued, “Gen34 will go into production in 2017, and we will continue our hard work to get these wheels at a weight of approximately 30 kilos by 2020.”

communicate a range of wheel and tyre data to both driver and fleet. At this moment in time, MaxSmart is in testing and is expected to be ready for production in 2017. “Driver and road safety is one of our industry’s biggest issues. By collecting comprehensive data from the wheel sensor and communicating it to the driver and fleet at the right time, we want to
