WHEEL SERVICE EQUIPMENT
vary between operators depending upon the size of the fleet and their existing servicing schedule, but with measurement times slashed, there’s little reason not to measure the vehicle every time it makes a visit to the workshop.
By making more regular checks and adjustments, operators can be sure that they are maximising tyre life and fuel efficiency. A more proactive approach is adopted which embraces a philosophy of ‘prevention rather than cure’, as is the case nowadays with most fleets. Once uneven tyre wear is visible, it’s already too late and significant damage may have occurred along with wasted money. A new pre- emptive approach ensures fleets can take control of their tyre management rather than be in a reactive position. Workshops and fleet operators who have already experienced the new Hunter system have been particularly impressed by its ease of use, speed and
accuracy. Simply attach the six wireless sensors to the vehicle’s wheels on three axles. The important operation of rolling compensation, which eradicates any rim runout issues (and no need for Jacking Compensation) is carried out in one short easy roll of the vehicle. This is possible because of Hunter’s unique vehicle pusher ‘EasiPush’. Live readings are transmitted to the system console with results presented in a clear, simple to understand printable format or available online via HunterNet (Hunters cloud based work management system) or sent direct via email. Such is the efficient nature of the system that users are only required to walk around the vehicle two and half times.
So monitoring commercial fleet alignment on a frequent basis is now within the realms of reality – in doing so making a sizeable contribution to the management of fleet tyre and fuel costs
be completed in as little as 55 seconds.
Meanwhile, mounting the tyre is an even quicker operation and can be completed in just 30 seconds! The changer lowers the wheel rim onto the tyre and with the use of an optional mount lever, the wheel and tyre assembly is spun by the changer and the tyre mounting process is completed.
The new Hunter heavy-duty tyre changer offers great flexibility for workshops, being able to accommodate standard truck tyres as well as super- singles. Equally thanks to its
innovative clamping mechanism, steel or aluminium rims can be serviced equally well, safe in the knowledge that they will not be damaged. “Changing truck tyres can be a tricky and fraught process,” adds Beaurain. “However, our new system reduces the risks and stresses making the entire process safer and quicker. There’s no lifting of heavy assemblies, no need for the use of hammers, making it a whole lot easier and controlled. With such a revolutionary system, we expect there to be a great deal of interest in it.”

The Hunter system has been very positively received which gives us great confidence for the introduction of our new
Hunter heavy-duty tyre changer.”
As has become the norm for award-winning Hunter products, the new tyre changer includes a host of innovative features which have been carefully designed to not only speed up and make the tyre changing process more efficient, but also make it safer and easier for technicians
carr ying out the work.
Indeed, in order to demount a tyre, operators simply roll the wheel and tyre assembly onto the changer, engage the tulip- style wheel clamp and then activate the bead-breaking rollers. The powerful hydraulic- powered carriage then moves across and effortlessly removes the tyre from the rim as it rotates, without any damage to the wheel or need for the use of hammers. This process can
