EXHIBITION REVIEW
Citexpo 2015: China’s Tyre Trade and Information Exchange
Tyre market analysts are currently suggesting that the Chinese tyre industry is operating hugely to overcapacity and has been approaching the global market place with no real plan. There will have to
Fong, the main advantage of the new venue is that it will be on one single floor unlike the current show which is on three floors.
“This has held the show back because everyone wants to be on
the ground floor,” says Fong. “The new exhibition space is also bigger so there is room for growth.” For next year the show had already been 75% sold before the show but during the exhibition a further 10% of the space had been reserved leading Fong to believe that the exhibition
space may ultimately need to be expanded.
“The high level of pre-reserved space shows that the show exhibitors are happy,” he added. Citexpo is the best known of the Chinese tyre exhibitions (of which there are several). The show has been positioned as a trade and information exchange oriented show – unlike the manufacturer association oriented show in Shandong and the Reifen China show. Fong points out that Citexpo’s exhibitor profile covers a full range of exhibitors from top tier to lower tier, which makes Citexpo
a comprehensive market place for buyers from all these tiers. He believes the other Chinese shows do not have the critical mass to achieve this and have also not been able to attract sufficient visitors to change this perception.
Citexpo has become a major shop window for
Chinese tyre manufacturers, and with the vast majority of exhibitors being Chinese tyre manufacturers, wholesalers are brokers, the show has a unique character. You’ll not find the largest Chinese tyre manufacturers here, at least not in their own right.
Those with European marketing arms like Giti, Sailun and Westlake or well established major wholesale partners like Double Coin were not here. However, if you want to buy a private brand, sub-contract a manufacturer to manufacture for you, or even just want to buy a
container of tyres direct, then you will find the majority of suppliers in the same place at the same time.
And there are
scores of
manufacturers –
the key issue is
finding those
whose products
are ECE certified,
because not all are
– some are
targeted at the
Asian markets and others at North America – but the choice is still wide.
To help you navigate your way through the plethora of tyre suppliers, here is a list of truck and bus tyre suppliers who were exhibiting at Citexpo, whose product literature and catalogue entr y identified them as offering EU certified commercial vehicle tyres. The list, we should add, is not exhaustive, but hopefully provides a good starting point for buyers looking topurchase from the Chinese tyre industry.

be consolidation they say, and the word on the street is that several plants may be struggling. For now, however, tyres are cheap, with tariffs in the US meaning that Europe is increasingly being targeted with Chinese tyres at increasingly keen prices.
According to Wilko Fong, Managing Director of Reliable International Exhibition Services Co Ltd, the organisers of Citexpo, China’s largest tyre trade exhibition, the bigger players in the market are coping with the market challenges well, but manufacturers with a reliance on one product sector (eg car) or those whose focus is on US and don’t have EU certification, may find it more difficult.
Fong was speaking at this year’s Citexpo, which took place at Shanghai’s Everbright Convention and Exhibition Center between 9- 11 September. Fong expressed
