Bridgestone’s Mobile Nitrogen Offer is a Breath of Fresh Air
Bridgestone has upgraded its Total Tyre Care offering for fleets with the addition of a mobile nitrogen inflation service for commercial vehicles, believed to be the first of its type in the UK. The company
service to their fleet customers with tyre pressure maintenance available as well as tyre management, auditing and vehicle tyre defleet management.
Tyre inflation, wear and eventual fuel economy figures will
improve as a result of the nitrogen provision and Bridgestone report interest in the service from existing and potential major fleet customers. Bridgestone Partner manager Paul Sheehan said: “Nitrogen is a larger molecule than oxygen, which means that it is less likely to permeate between the
rubber molecules resulting in better pressure maintenance. Filling tyres with a nitrogen-rich mix can reduce the natural pressure loss from the tyre by around a third. The advantages of this are longer lasting maintenance of the correct
pressure. Maintaining correct tyre pressures will increase the performance of the tyres, including reduced wear and increased fuel economy.
“We are really excited to be able to offer a mobile nitrogen inflation option to Bridgestone fleet customers and we are confident that interest will be high, and we would love to hear from more fleet operators who are interested in trialing the benefits of nitrogen for themselves”
Olly Shortland,
product manager
for Pneumatic
Components Ltd
(PCL), said: “We
see our mobile
nitrogen solution
with Bridgestone
as a big
breakthrough and
we are confident
that fleet
operators will
really see the
benefit in a
number of ways.
“Oxygen is reactive, whereas nitrogen is much less so. Thus, by removing much of the oxygen, you are removing a potential source oxidation to the rim or tyre.
“In addition, by removing the water vapour, you will ensure a more constant internal pressure of the tyre, so there are many advantages in using nitrogen, rather than air.”
