     PRODUCT NEWS
New Fuel Saving CV Tyres from Michelin
cover ever y tyre inflation application from passenger cars to large commercial vehicles.
This new product aims to bring rewards for tyre service providers, who will now benefit from offering the nitrogen inflation service to commercial customers on roadside breakdowns.
Weighing only 30kg, the NEXUS Compact features a bespoke software programme for converting up to 2 x 315-70R22.5 commercial tyres from air to 95%+ nitrogen in less than 8 minutes.
According to PCL, nitrogen is extremely cost-effective to use with the new NEXUS range. Simple to set up, with no training and very little maintenance required; and with high grade filtration and high
performance components, the lifetime costs are minimal. NEXUS, with its ceramic sensor, also provides a guaranteed inflation accuracy of up to ± 0.5% of full scale reading.
Rugged and reliable, the units are mobile to allow efficient and flexible positioning and usage.
The internal tanks meet CE standards, and NEXUS features a digital adjustable tank set pressure control via display parameters. The electronic preset tyre inflation is also easy to use, with a digital LCD displaying clear readings.
Michelin is expanding its most fuel- efficient range of commercial vehicle tyres ever with the launch of the 315/80 R 22.5 X Line Energy Z (multi-position) and 315/80 R 22.5 X Line Energy D (drive) fitments – a move it says is key for fleets investing in Euro VI vehicles.
Together with the existing 315/70 R 22.5 X Line Energy tyres, launched in October 2012, the two tyre sizes will ensure long-distance truck and coach operators can extract the best total value of ownership from the first to the last millimetre of usable tyre tread.
They will be available on the original equipment and replacement markets
resistance results in their class, without any impact upon tyre life or grip on wet surfaces. The 315/80 drive tyre even carries 3PMSF* markings on its sidewall for its impressive traction qualities when driving on snow.
Heywood explains: “Everything we do is focused around designing a tyre which offers what Michelin calls ‘total performance’. Our engineers are skilled at finding the perfect balance between multiple performance characteristics, including fuel efficiency, grip and longevity. It’s testament to the €622 million we spend on research and development each year – more than any other tyre manufacturer in the world.”
The new tyres have been designed to offer the best total value of ownership for long distance operators and will replace the corresponding sizes in the previous Michelin Energy SaverGreen and Michelin A2 Energy ranges.
X Line Energy tyres offer the optimum fitment solution for fleets operating primarily on motorways
 Bridgestone Launches R249II EVO Ecopia
Bridgestone is promising greater savings on fuel, along with significant reductions in rolling resistance and irregular wear, courtesy of the new R249II EVO Ecopia – a steer truck tyre, which aims to take fleet operators further than ever before at an even lower cost per kilometre.
The R249II EVO Ecopia is available in size 315/60R22.5 and was engineered with significantly reduced irregular wear for vastly improved mileag*, while at the same time reducing rolling resistance and thus enabling fleets to save on fuel consumption.
New technologies evenly distribute acceleration and braking forces that work on the tyre, significantly reducing irregular wear. An optimised casing line and belt tension reduce the wear energy on
the shoulder rib. As a
result the life of the tyre is prolonged and considerably more mileage can be
achieved.
Additionally by using state- of-the art NanoPro-Tech compounds that reduce internal friction, avoiding energy loss in the top compound as the tyre
rotates, the R249II EVO
Ecopia provides a no compromise answer for fuel efficiency with this
exceptional mileage and durability.
Joining the innovative line-up of EVO tyres, also the R249II EVO Ecopia is equipped with Turn-in-Ply technology, ensuring a stronger and more resilient bead which increases the tyre’s durability and allows heavier loads to be carried. “Fleets need a tyre with great durability that will also enable them to save fuel as much as possible. This is precisely what the R249II EVO Ecopia offers them” says Harald Van Ooteghem, Senior Manager, Commercial Marketing Planning, Bridgestone Europe. The R249II EVO Ecopia in size 315/60R22.5 is available now for the replacement and original equipment markets.
from March 2014, with the new drive tyre being manufactured at Michelin’s factory in Ballymena, Northern Ireland. A 385/65 R 22.5 X Line Energy T (trailer) fitment will join the existing 385/55 R 22.5 trailer tyre in the range later in 2014. Guy Heywood, Commercial Director of Michelin’s truck and coach division in the UK and Republic of Ireland, says: “At Euro VI, vehicles need a tyre which can carry the increased axle load, and this expansion of the X Line Energy line- up enables fleets to unlock potentially significant fuel savings from the latest long-distance Michelin tyres.”
The launch means operators seeking a 315/80 solution can benefit from tyres featuring the best rolling
and major trunk roads, where vehicles cover in excess of 110,000 km a year at average speeds greater than 70 km/h and with limited stops per day.
NEXUS Compact – Mobile Nitrogen Tyre Inflation
PCL’s brand new NEXUS Compact Nitrogen inflation product offers fast and accurate nitrogen generation and inflation in a new housing size, so small it can be fitted to the inside or outside of mobile tyre service vehicles. It can also be used for commercial tyre
inflation in busy tyre service bays and on forecourts where space and weight are at a premium.
The launch of the NEXUS Compact now means that PCL can offer cost-effective nitrogen generation hand in hand with its digital inflation technology to
