Bridgestone Secure Bus and Coach Fleet Agreement
The strength of Bridgestone’s bus and coach tyre offering has been further underscored after securing a significant PPK fleet agreement with the Tower Transit Group, which operates two different bus and coach businesses. Tower Transit Operations Ltd operates 500 buses on TfL contracts and Whippet Coaches
manager Matt Millington said: “To be in a position to work with Tower Transit is a huge coup for everyone at Bridgestone.”
The new partnership represents a double coup for Bridgestone, after the company also secured work with East Yorkshire Motor Services (EYMS) in the run-up to Christmas.
Matt Millington and Satnam Cheema.
Group runs a fleet of express coaches, as well as a further 70 Stage carriage buses.
Commenting on the three-year agreement Tower Transit’s Group Engineering Director Satnam Cheema said: “Bridgestone gave me a lot of confidence through their proposed transition plan. This gave me the assurance that switching supplier would bring minimum risk and we would continue to receive a quality service.”
Bridgestone’s fleet operations
Bridgestone’s ‘full-fit’ package - where an in-house technician physically removes then re-fits wheel assemblies – was the ideal solution for the fleet’s central location in Hull, from where 160 vehicles are operated.
Meanwhile, a ‘super fit’ option was requested for EYMS’s other depots dotted around the region, with the built-up assemblies being sent to the fleet’s own technicians to fit to the remaining 140 buses and coaches.
McGill’s Buses Extend Michelin Solutions Agreement
McGill’s Buses has signed up to a Michelin solutions tyre management programme for five more years, citing the company’s “fantastic support” as key to its decision to renew. The EFFITIRESTM contract covers 100 per cent of the operator’s more than 400 single- and double-decker buses. McGill’s operates from five depots in Barrhead, Coatbridge, Greenock, Inchinnan and Johnstone. Its 1,000 employees help customers complete more than half a million journeys each week across 110 different routes.
Ralph Roberts, Managing Director at McGill’s, says: “We’ve enjoyed fantastic support from Michelin solutions since appointing them to
manage our tyres on a pence per kilometre basis in 2010. When the time came to review our tyre strategy, it was clear that extending our current EFFITIRESTM contract was the best decision for the business.” Working with an on-site engineer, Michelin solutions’ dedicated team helps ensure all tyres fitted to the company’s fleet are serviced to the highest standards. Michelin solutions proactively regrooves all tyres across the customer’s fleet to make full use of the additional layers of base rubber built into every new Michelin tyre as standard. This process helps McGill’s to save money on fuel, as regrooving extends the life of the tyre in its most fuel-efficient state.
