IAA REVIEW
Michelin Presents Services and Solutions to Optimise the Management of Fleets of All Sizes
From its stand at the IAA in Hannover Michelin provided an in- depth presentation of the various segmented service offerings, which allow it to provide services for fleets of all sizes. For fleets in excess of 100 vehicles the French manufacturer demonstrated its new tool for optimising trailer fleets, EFFITRAILER. EFFITRAILER, marketed by Michelin Group subsidiary

The programme has three offers to help transport operators optimise the maintenance of their tyres – TireLog, a digital pocket maintenance log that is simple and convenient to use, ICheck, a predictive tyre diagnosis tool, and IManage, which allows connected management of all tyres in the fleet TireLog is a free application, available in 11 languages for smartphones and tablets (iOS and Android) which provides simple and effective monitoring of the tyres. It is designed for companies with fewer than 20 vehicles. These companies represent approximately 95% of European transport companies. This application allows them to save time, save money and help organisations plan maintenance and service work such as regrooving, retreading and tyre replacement. It also offers a simple support function for
improves company profitability and protects the environment. Users receive an inspection kit with a digital gauge, electronic pressure controller and a PDA for the simple checking of tyres. A digital web portal receives and stores the information and fleet managers receive alert messages when immediate action is required. In addition, customers can consult online reports and analysis – for example, tyre requirements, tyre life and the situation regarding pressure maintenance across the fleet.
iManage uses the RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) chip in the tyre. Transport operators with their own workshop can track each tyre throughout its life, from the first to the last kilometre and from the warehouse to final disposal. iManage lets operators collect all the data on their tyres in an electronic maintenance log and analyse them.
An online portal holds all the data. The operator can thus obtain

Michelin solutions, has been designed to sit alongside the manufacturer’s existing PPK package EFFITIRES. It is an optimisation tool designed to manage the trailer fleet and is unusual in that it is Michelin’s first offer to the market, which does not offer tyres directly.
The main aims of the programme are to strengthen the safety of property, equipment and people, lower the costs of holding towed vehicles with efficient, detailed and customised analyses, improve the maintenance of the fleets in a manner which is more preventative than curative, and to assure more reliable deliveries and greater responsiveness to the operator’s customers.
The EFFITRAILER solution offers two levels of engagement: - A commitment to results: fewer tyre- related breakdowns to improve safety, enhance service quality and optimise costs, and a means of commitment to optimising trailer utilisation rates to improve productivity.
EFFITRAILER has added a number of new options tailored to the needs of carriers, which are all accessible from the new web portal: - Monitoring the temperature of the cargo to ensure compliance with the cold chain
being transported.
According to Michelin, EFFITRAILER consistently maintains Michelin’s value-adding strategy and offers the possibility to plan, manage and control all activities for trailers. Thanks to proactive maintenance, the service package reduces punctures by up to 50 percent. Moreover, productivity is increased due to less mileage and optimal trailer utilisation. At the same time, downtime is reduced, and reliability during delivery increased. This means more security for goods and materials and lower maintenance cost for trailers.
EFFITIRES and EFFITRAILER are really aimed at fleets of over 100 units in size. However, Michelin also offer solutions for medium sized fleets.
MICHELIN TIRE CARE is the first online digital service around the tyre, simplifying the maintenance of tyres, helping exploit their full potential, reducing operating costs, and, with the connected tyre, offering traceability of each tyre. For the customer this means improved safety, mobility and cost savings.
Launched in October 2015, MICHELIN TIRE CARE is available on smartphones, computers or

iCheck allows companies to manage preventive and routine tyre maintenance and is designed for vehicle fleets with their own workshop (generally fleets of between 50 and 100 vehicles). This offer enables real-time monitoring of vehicle fleet and reduces by about one third, the time required for checking tyres. With iCheck, carriers have access at any time to all relevant information. The risk of tyre problems is decreased, the replacement of tyres and regrooving can be planned in good time and the tyre can be used up to the wear limit. This helps to lower the cost per kilometre,
analyses and reports containing information on the inflation pressure, the remaining tread depth, the general condition of the tyres, the resulting needs and stock levels. Detailed analysis of the data provides transparency and security. It lets operators schedule timely maintenance such as regrooving, retreading and tyre replacement, and avoid failures due to improper inflation pressures. With this preventive maintenance of tyres, assets are accurately predicted and problems minimised.
