      CONTRACT WINS
Marcotran Signs Pan-European Goodyear FleetFirst Contract
Southampton City Council
Saves Cash After Move
Spanish transport and logistics group Marcotran has signed a FleetFirst agreement with Goodyear for the supply of new and retread tyres as well as trans-European full tyre management. The decision to trust Goodyear´s truck tyre management was based on the
distance express transport including regular runs from Spain to Moscow, which take just three and a half days.
Goodyear’s recently launched eJob App is also a key element of the FleetFirst truck tyre management contract. This enables data and

Officials at Southampton City Council have shaved more than 10 per cent off the annual tyre bill for their 460-strong fleet after a move to fitting premium Michelin tyres has extended replacement intervals.
The decision to fit Michelin began in April 2013 and saw an immediate tyre spend reduction of 11 per cent for the year 2013- 2014, versus the previous policy, which had seen a mixture of different brands fitted. In the following year, 2014-2015, Southampton City Council’s tyre spend dropped by nearly three per cent more, as greater numbers of Michelin tyres were rolled out.
In total, tyre expenditure has dropped from £127,807.87 in 2012-2013, to just £110,656.43 in 2014-2015, with savings projected to continue into 2016.
The council runs a total of 360 vans, 37 refuse collection vehicles (RCVs), 17 heavy goods vehicles, 13 minibuses, six road sweepers and four cars – which are each included on the policy and deliver vital services across the city. Southampton City Council’s Fleet Services Systems Administrator, Alfonso Mata, explains: “All local authorities are working hard to maximise value from their budgets and fitting Michelin tyres on the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) framework has delivered noticeable savings to our fleet running costs. We’re getting improved longevity and durability from ever y Michelin tyre we fit; it’s particularly noticeable on the RCV fleet, which is arguably the toughest on tyres. “Although the RCVs don’t do high mileages, they carr y out some of the most demanding work and risk coming into frequent contact with the kerb during daily collections.
In our experience the Michelin fitments offer better damage resistance and last longer than the tyres we fitted previously. This not only means extended replacement intervals, it reduces wheel interventions and fleet downtime,” he adds.
The RCVs are used intensively for up to eight hours a day, five days a week, collecting refuse and recycling materials from across the city for deliver y to waste transfer stations.
The Michelin policy sees technicians from ATS Euromaster’s Southampton centre provide an onsite fitment service for the Council. The technicians also regroove as many tyres as possible, extending tyre life by up to 25 per cent each time to make full use of the additional layers of base rubber built into all new Michelin truck tyres. Once the regrooved tyre has worn, it is retreaded by Michelin into a Remix tyre – providing almost identical performance to that of a new Michelin truck tyre – whilst reducing environmental impact and raw material consumption.
Michelin is an approved supplier to Southampton City Council under the CCS tyre purchasing framework agreement. The CCS works to provide savings for customers in both central government and the wider public sector by negotiating commercial relationships as a single organisation.
successful experience with Goodyear fuel-efficient FUELMAX tyres and the comprehensive solutions package including FleetOnlineSolutions (FOS) and eJob of FleetFirst.
Goodyear’s internet based FOS tyre management system will be central to the contract, which covers the supply and support of Goodyear FUELMAX new and mould cure retreaded tyres to Marcotran’s fleet of 700 trucks and 1,200 trailers. FOS allows Goodyear service providers of the TruckForce network and Marcotran depots the ability to access all essential fleet and contract details on-line and in the local language. This reduces downtime by helping speed up service as well as ensuring simple and accurate invoicing.
“We have tested tyres from Goodyear’s FUELMAX range for three years, and are very satisfied with the mileage and fuel consumption achieved. That was one of the reasons that led us to sign this agreement, in addition to the added value of the many tyre management and follow-up tools that Goodyear provides us with,” said Alberto Marco Lopez, Marcotran’s Procurement Director. The contract mainly centres on Marcotran’s operations in Spain and Poland with the involvement of its other operating bases in Italy, France, Morocco and Russia. Marcotran specialises in long-
images to be input directly into the FOS system from a job via a smartphone or tablet. In this way time and paperwork are reduced, and the quality of service improved. “The combination of the benefits offered by our fuel-efficient Goodyear FUELMAX tyres, our in- house mold cure retreading and our FleetFirst truck tyre management with its services and solutions is proving a winner with more and more fleets trusting our offering across Europe. We are delighted that Marcotran has chosen Goodyear as tyre and service partner. Our ability to service their vehicles across Europe with our TruckForce network means that they can rely on full back-up wherever they are. A further benefit is the transparency and reduced administration that our FOS systems provide. All these will help Marcotran to reduce their Total Cost of Ownership,” said Jan-Piet Huylebroeck, Sales Director Truck Tyres at Goodyear Europe, Middle East and Africa.
This new FleetFirst win demonstrates again the main elements of Goodyear’s FleetFirst truck tyre management programme, which provides high quality products including mould cure retreaded tyres, dedicated services and innovative solutions for the transport industry.
