Continental Continues Focus on Lowering Driving Costs
ideal for yard shunters in logistic operations. Trials show that Conti Terminal transport tyres can last up to 50 per cent longer than tyres currently used in these applications. The tyre’s excellent wear resistance is provided by a closed shoulder, ensuring more even wear, a wear- resistant compound and the ability to run at higher pressures.
As well as the featured products, Continental will be demonstrating the benefits of the new Conti
Continental Tyres stand at this year’s CV Show will showcase a number of new products aimed at helping fleet operators achieve the lowest overall driving cost.
Central to this are the company’s new Conti Hybrid range, which is being completed this year with the Conti Hybrid 22.5 Drive and Trailer tyres. The Hybrid range is aimed to provide the best balance in mileage and fuel efficiency for a broad range of applications and is particularly important to the UK market with its emphasis on regional driving. These additional sizes follow the 17.5, 19.5 and 22.5, Steer tyres which were launched in 2014. The Hybrid range features a range of technologies designed to optimise mileage performance including a newly designed tread with a two-layer construction (cap base). The larger "plus volume pattern" in the tread
also considerably reduce rolling resistance.
Also new in the Continental range is the ContiRe CityService tyre, a retreaded tyre specially developed for waste and refuse vehicles. The CityService tyre guarantees optimum durability and long service life thanks to an innovative non-directional tread structure and a dual-sided reinforced sidewall. This tyre comes in two types: the HA3 for use on all axle positions and the HD3, which is designed specifically for the drive axle.
Last but not least, is a new radial tyre in Continental’s Speciality range used in ports and harbours on terminal tractors and trailers. Due to its performance characteristics, namely high durability under demanding conditions and good wear resistance, the 300 / 80 22.5 Conti Terminal Transport tyre is also
Industrial Network – a national network of IMI-trained, quality tyre service providers specialising in industrial vehicle tyres.
In addition to Continental’s latest tyre products Continental will be demonstrating the latest developments in the ContiPressureCheck Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, which provides real time tyre pressure and
temperature information, along with alerts to signal pressure loss. According to Commercial Vehicle Marketing Manager Tracey Hyem, this year will see ContiPressureCheck integrated into vehicle telematics systems, which will allow tyre pressure and temperature data to be incorporated seamlessly into their current fleet management systems. Steve Howat, General Manager, Technical Services commented; “At the moment the system provides information on tyre pressures to the driver in his cab, but that’s as far as it goes. We are now working closely with a couple of telematics providers which will allow fleet managers to have instant access to temperature and pressure information covering the whole life of the tyres on their vehicles.”
