Since 2011, Goodyear has been developing and testing its Air Maintenance Technology, which can aid fuel savings and carbon dioxide reductions while potentially improving tyre life, casing durability and safety - eliminating the need for manually inflating tyres. During the next phase of testing, multiple US and Canada- based trucking fleets will test AMT over the next 18 months in their normal daily operations.

Giti Tire has described its Euro Bus Expo debut a success, generating several European-wide sales leads and citing significant interest in both the GT Radial GSR225 Combi Road and

Peter Foulkes, Marketing Director Europe - Commercial Tires at Giti Tire, said: “The decision to present definitely paid dividends, not only has it opened several doors, we have secured a number of tests and cemented our position as a true partner and supporter of the coach and bus sector.
“Several attendees commented on the breadth and depth of what is a comprehensive passenger transport portfolio, and with our mid-market position and value-added support services, such as GT Assist, we have created a compelling argument for GT Radial for operators across Europe.” Launched one year ago, the GSR225
curbing, making it appropriate for a wide variety of regional and long-haul vehicles.
The 22.5” tyre is currently available in sizes 275/70, 295/80, 315/60, 315/70 and 315/80 with load indexes range from 148/145M to 156/150L. GT Radial’s first all-position urban city-bus tyre, GAU861 has been designed with an extra reinforced sidewall to ensure maximum resistance to curbing and impact damage, while a 20.2mm deep, unique tread pattern ensures good mileage performance combined with extra comfort and reduced noise. Available in 275/70R22.5, the tyre can be used in both steer and drive positions on both 4x2 and 6x2 configurations and is M+S marked.
a specified cold inflation pressure without the need for any external pumps or electronics. The system utilises peristaltic pump technology to automatically maintain tyre pressure at fleets’ desired levels. All components of the AMT system, including the pump, are fully contained within the tyre.
The DOE’s Office of Vehicle Technology has provided a $1.5 million (€1.17 million) grant to assist in the Akron-based research, development and demonstration of the AMT system for commercial vehicle tyres.
Hankook Upgrades Light and Medium Duty Truck Tyre Range
Goodyear to Start Air Maintenance Technology Trials
Hankook is further expanding its truck tyre business in Europe by upgrading its range of light to medium duty truck tyres with a special focus on its successful patterns AH11 for the steer axle and DH05+ for the drive axle. During the development phase, the Hankook engineers focused on optimising tyre performance including a significant reduction in rolling resistance combined with excellent handling, high wet braking abilities and long lasting durability. After having passed various strict test standards, the tyre patterns will be also fitted to several Mercedes-Benz Atego Euro VI models in
sizes 215/75R17.5, 235/75R17.5, 265/70R19.5 and 285/70R19.5 depending on the vehicle specification.
Hankook’s AH11 (All Position, Medium Haul) pattern for the steering axle as well as all round use, prevents uneven wear, and provides enhanced durability. Two-tiered tapered shoulders inhibit wandering. Multi-kerfs on grooves and large-angled groove walls improve handling and stability. Its wide tread design provides outstanding traction in wet conditions. The pattern is also designed to lower
operating costs per kilometre. The innovative tyre contour promotes excellent lateral stability while providing precise handling in all weather conditions. The Hankook DH05+ (Drive Axle, Medium Haul) has been designed for minimum performance alterations in changing road and weather conditions. The dynamic cross-section pattern design and deep grooves ensure strong traction. A block pattern was applied for even wear. DH05+ also displays excellent driving and braking capabilities on wet roads.
Goodyear has revealed that it is to begin testing its Air Maintenance Technology (AMT) for commercial
vehicles on US trucking fleets over the course of the next few months as part of a research project supported by United States Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Vehicle Technology. The project is aimed at addressing key challenges for commercial vehicle fleets such as fuel efficiency.
The challenge was recently discussed in the “Mobility of the Future” Transport Symposium held by Goodyear Europe, Middle East and Africa in Brussels where the company launched its new White Paper “Mobility of the Future: Smart Fleets and the Future of the Transport Industry”. One of the key findings from the research that supported the report was that fuel costs are the
