MWSD recently announced that its commercial vehicle wheel safety campaign has been successfully incorporated in the new European Union (EU) Roadworthiness Package, which became law in May 2014.
Following adoption by both the
European Parliament and European Council, the new law states ‘compatibility between parts and components, such as between wheels and wheel hubs, should be treated as a critical safety item and should be checked during roadworthiness testing’.
          TALAS Truck Wheels from Hämmerling
German tyre and wheel wholesaler Hämmerling – The Tyre Company GmbH has recently received further confirmation of the quality of its TALAS-Steel brand of truck and bus wheels due to the fact that the wheels have now passed a 5 tonne test. The wheels, which are manufactured to high quality according to the EUWA standard are also TüV certified and controlled and are claimed to be the only wheel brand carrying the TüV seal directly on the wheel.
Managing Director Ralf Hämmerling explains: TALAS wheels are supplied to the OE
market and as such, the quality level needs to be very high. The wheels are manufactured in China according to stringent selection procedures. Over the past two years we have inspected 10 factories in China and it is not easy to find the right quality. We believe only 4-5 factories are capable of providing the necessary quality. We make sure we use only the best of these.”
The TALAS range covers 90- 95% of in-demand sizes and all wheels are powder coated for the best protection against corrosion. Every wheel comes with the valve included.
Maxion Wheels has announced the introduction of its latest innovation, which it says will present a new market standard for light weight truck wheels. The new Gen35 wheel family is claimed to be 6% lighter than Maxion’s previous wheel generation and 3.5% lighter
than the lightest available equally-sized truck wheel on the world market.
The weight reduction is a result of innovative techniques designed to optimise the profile of the wheels while simultaneously assuring state-of-the-art performance and safety figures. The wheels, say Maxion, have
passed through the most demanding performance requirement in the world, the biaxial test machine for truck wheels, which guarantees a long-lasting and reliable product. Reduced weight in the vehicle provides the opportunity for increased payload capacity, improved fuel economy and reduced emission levels. Forwarding costs can be reduced since more wheels can be
transported at the same time. The new light weight wheel generation also allows the customer to comply with the EURO VI low emission program in Europe.
