     PRODUCT NEWS
New On/Off Road Truck Tyres from Falken
Building on the popularity of its products in the North American construction sector, where its products are already available, Falken is now bringing the M+S marked and regroovable
GI388 and GI378 on/off road tyres into the UK market.
The tyres,
aimed at
operators
seeking
affordable yet resilient truck
tyres for mixed
use are capable
of handling the higher weights associated with Euro 6 trucks, with ratings of up to 13,000 kg.
With affirm emphasis on ensuring tyre longevity and ultimately lower tyre life cost, Falken’s tyres use a robust casing incorporating heat resistant inner tube layers topped with a low abrasion compound that can be regrooved. Falken has also specified stone ejectors to prevent foreign objects becoming trapped in the grooves and penetrating the tyre belts, minimising the risk of corrosion that can prematurely end a tyre’s operating life. As a further line of defence, rust inhibitors are standard across the range.
To prevent damage from scuffing
kerbs in lighter operating environments and to guard against less careful end users, Falken has specified sturdy sidewall protection bands. “We
know from talking to operators that tyre
failures are costly and our tyres are
packed with sensible design
features to ensure minimal
downtime and extend the life
of the tyre,” says Falken’s UK
and Ireland director Matt
Smith. “This value proposition from a
trusted brand should be relevant to any
operator in sectors such as construction or municipal where no-nonsense savings are key to fleet cost management.”
For all year round usage, the deep tread profile provides good traction and the circumferential serrated grooves and deep notches help progress when grip is at a premium.
The new Falken GI388 is available in sizes 315/80 R 22.5 156/150K, 12 R 22.5 152/148K and 11 R 22.5 148/145 K. The GI378 for steering axles and trailers is initially available in 385/65 R 22.4 158K, 425/65 R 22.5 165K and 445/65 R 22.5 168K.

operating conditions.
In order to provide high traction even on muddy surfaces, the DM09 has a tread surface that is 5% wider than its predecessor. The extra-wide, directional tread design enables improved displacement of mud and water while maintaining an increased ground contact area. The tyre proves itself in difficult terrain thanks to its excellent cross- country mobility and also provides exceptional mileage and grip on dry and wet roads. Thanks to a special block design with a reinforced central bar, which means forces are distributed more evenly during use, wear characteristics are more consistent and uneven wear is minimised. Conically designed tread blocks on the outside of the tread surface increase resistance to lateral strain and effectively help prevent damage to the tyre's
shoulder or tearing of the block edges. The tread, which is designed to be open right up to the tyre shoulder, also increases the self-cleaning properties. Meanwhile, the innovative Hankook mixing method IMS (Innovative Mixing System) ensures a particularly even distribution of carbon black particles and rubber molecules within the mixtures. Together with longer mixing times at lower temperatures, a significant increase of the bonding rate between the carbon black and rubber molecules can be achieved. As a result, the DM09 generates less heat during driving, which has a positive effect on rolling resistance and thereby on fuel consumption as well.
The SmartWork DM09 with M+S identification is available in sizes 13R22.5 and 315/80R22.5.
Bandvulc Launches New Bus Tyre Range
Bandvulc has announced the launch of a new range of bus tyres to its expanding product portfolio. This new range is called the Citymaster and is currently available in two sizes, with further sizes to follow. Firstly the tyre is available in size 275/70R22.5 148/145J with an 18mm tread
depth 4-groove design for double deckers and large singles. Secondly, the company has 245/70R19.5 tyres with 141/140J and 136/134L load indices. The tyre has a 16mm tread depth and features a 3-groove design for Hoppa type buses.
Hankook have announced the introduction of a
new commercial
vehicle tyre for demanding tasks
in the on/off-road segment - the SmartWork
DM09. This
directional drive
axle tyre is
optimised for
heavy loads and
high stress and is distinguished by increased resilience against splintering,
cuts and tread breaks, in
combination with an improved self-cleaning
function and an extremely robust
carcass construction.
Designed for demanding tasks
in the on/off-road segment, the successor of the
popular DM03 offers increased safety, resilience
and efficiency. Also, thanks to its M+S
marking it can be utilised on and off-road
