According to Mobility Sweden, heavy vehicles continue to have a continued positive development even during the month of March, where heavy trucks increased by approximately 30 per cent and buses just over 44 per cent compared to March 2022.
Mobility Sweden Reports Truck Sales Increase
During the first quarter of the year, 62 electric-powered heavy trucks were registered, which corresponds to 3.9 per cent. During the same period, the number of new electric buses amounts to 32, which corresponds to nearly every fourth registration during the first three months of the year.
It should be noted that the sales of electric passenger vehicles were up considerably in the same period, with 42 per cent of all new car registrations being for electric cars – which is somewhat higher than in most markets, suggesting a Swedish dynamic that is driving the market towards electric vehicles.
The number of new light trucks increased by approximately six percent in March compared to the same month last year. The share of electric light trucks amounted to 19.1 percent in March and to 13.4 percent during the first quarter, that is almost one in every five new light trucks were electric.
Heavy trucks over 16 tonnes saw 636 units registered which was 29.% up year-on-year and 41% ahead in the year-to-date figures. The light truck sector, trucks up to 3.5 tonnes saw 3654 units registered, which has come in 6% ahead of March 2022 and 10% ahead year-on-year, but (6.1% up year on year), (10% up year-to-date) but the big change came with light electric trucks as 699 units were registered with a 107.4% year-on-year increase and 38% year-to-date jump. This of course comes from starting from a low base, that big percentage rise is easy, but nonetheless, the signs of a market change are there.
The market also saw some 39 buses registered in the month representing a 44% up year-on-year improvement.
