 Liverpool Manager Drives
Furthest in Bridgestone
Competition
A sales manager from Liverpool who spends most of his working week on the road will be driving even further from now on, after hitting a golf ball 304 yards to beat hundreds of people to a coveted Bridgestone prize.
The world’s largest tyre manufacturer organised a ‘Driving Further’ competition at the recent Commercial Vehicle Show at the NEC and Chris Byrne, from Maghull,
an account manager with Amari Plastics in Manchester and had a swing in the simulator while checking out the brand’s Total Tyre Care solution and range of commercial tyres.
Little did he know that he’d be walking away with a set of clubs and bag used by current Bridgestone sponsored stars Brandt Snedeker, Matt Kuchar, Fred Couples and Paula Creamer.
The CV Show represented Bridgestone’ most significant opportunity of the year and visitor numbers were up 42 per cent – partly due to the hugely popular golf simulator attraction.
It was the first time that Bridgestone opted to showcase its provision of golf products and accessories at an industry show, in an attempt to bring a huge company asset to a new audience, who may not be aware of the strength of the sports range.
Product and marketing manager Andy Mathias said: “Our golf simulator was another point of difference that we hadn’t leveraged before and it was hugely successful in driving more people to our stand.
“Chris drove the ball further than anyone else at the entire show by some distance and we were delighted to see the winning prize go to such a golfing enthusiast, who will be putting the clubs and bag to good use.”
Falken’s Drift Team Gets to Grip with V8 Powered Milk Float
Originally converted to tow a speedboat, Milky, a V8-powered milk float, has now been fitted with Falken tyres, demonstrating that the tyre maker has tyres for almost any vehicle The 1961 Morris milk float, owned by Oxfordshire-based Mel Smith, sports Falken’s latest WildPeak’s and Linam van tyres. Ahead of a summer season of car shows and events, the vehicle was put to the test at Banbury Plant Hire’s yard by Team Falken’s drift driver Matt Carter.
“Compared to my 600+bhp Nissan competition car, this was still more of a pig than a cow to drift,” says the former British Drift Champion Carter. “With no seat belts or doors, it was a
case of hanging on rather than hanging the tail out!”
Whilst much of the history of ‘Milky’ is not known to, it is believed that the conversion was undertaken by a wealthy enthusiast to tow a speedboat around London, with tales of it being seen travelling at speed around the capital.
Now the Japanese manufacturer is able to supply the unusual profile tyres from its expanding range. “We increasingly claim that we offer a full range of tyres and patterns in the UK, from Minis to trucks and buses,” says Falken’s UK director Matt Smith. “Now, we can even say that V8 milkfloats are not a problem.”
was the biggest hitter over the three- day event, winning a set of Bridgestone irons and a bag worth £1,200.
The 33 year-old, a 12 handicapper at Frodsham Golf Club, visited the Bridgestone stand in his capacity as
