Continental's Third Generation Tyres Fitted OE to MAN Truck & Bus
Continental is a major tyre supplier to MAN Truck & Bus, and from May 2014 new vehicles from the Munich- based truck and bus manufacturer will be equipped with the new Continental third generation tyres. The Conti EcoPlus HS3 for steer axles and the Conti EcoPlus HD3 for drive axles in sizes 315/70R22.5 and 315/70R22.5 XL were the first to obtain approval for all MAN models. With the Conti EcoPlus tyre family, Continental has consistently focused on long-haul use and regional distribution, mainly on motorways. Thanks to the specially adjusted
rubber compounds, new tread design, and reduced rolling resistance, they give customers the benefit of fuel savings of up to 1.9 litres over 100 kilometres - without compromising on mileage performance. The steer axle tyres also demonstrate improved wet grip behaviour and feature a Visual Alignment Indicator (VAI).
In the bus and coach segment - for both MAN and NEOPLAN vehicles - the Conti Coach HA3 succeeded in fulfilling the manufacturer's technical specifications as an all-round tyre fitment for long distance coach travel, while the Conti CityPlus HA3 won
plaudits for regional travel.
The coach tyres, specially designed for greater speed and comfort on long- haul journeys, offer fuel-efficient mileage, excellent wet braking behaviour, and reliable tracking and steering precision. The regional travel tyres stand out with great mileage performance, even wear, and excellent handling and wet grip properties over the entire service life. Both tyres have the EU label rating "A" for wet grip. All 3rd generation Continental tyres are based on a retreadable premium carcass with reinforced steel cord beads and are regroovable. The
patented AirKeep« inner liner minimizes creeping air loss.
The following Continental tyres will be used by MAN as original equipment from May 2014.

Michelin Delivers the Difference for Cosgrave Transport
Family run Cosgrave Transport has adopted a Michelin tyre policy across its fleet of 27 trucks and 75 trailers after the performance of Michelin’s steer axle tyres impressed Managing Director Brian Cosgrave.
Prior to switching to Michelin, the Limerick-based haulier fitted a range of well-known tyre brands, but found steer tyre wear so aggressive that tyres had to be turned on the rim every six weeks. In some cases steer tyres supplied as original equipment suffered major shoulder wear after just six weeks in service.
Brian Cosgrave explains: “Our fleet undertakes a lot of regional work and the deteriorating condition of some of the older roads in Ireland really take their toll. Pronounced cambers and ruts caused by years of trailers operating on super singles were causing terrible premature tyre wear. It was pushing up our running costs and eating into valuable workshop hours.
“The difference in performance

since we started fitting Michelin replacement tyres has been incredible. We’re getting a very respectful mileage performance from the tyres and roadside downtime is a rare occurrence. As a result, we now fit Michelin products on all axles.”
Cosgrave also specifies Michelin tyres as original equipment on new trucks and trailers joining the fleet. “It cost us €750.00 to have 385/65 R 22.5 XTE3 tyres fitted on each of our new Dennison trailers, but it’s worth it. When you consider the total value of ownership we’ll unlock from each of these Michelin casings, it more than covers the additional cost.” Established in 1978, Cosgrave Transport specialises in container transport using a fleet of container chassis and sliding skeletal trailers. Operating from Annacotty Business Park, Limerick; North Esk, Cork and Ballycoolin, Dublin 15, the fleet is fitted with satellite tracking and services all Irish and major European ports.
