1,533 new light trucks were registered in Sweden in July, which is one per cent less compared to the same month last year.
Sweden Records Decline for Light Trucks but Strong Demand for BEV
During the first seven months of the year, a total of 18,184 new light trucks were registered, a decrease of 21 per cent compared to the same period last year. However, there is a pent-up need among the companies to renew the fleet and the order books are full. The lack of semiconductors and other components has meant that deliveries have not been able to meet demand, according to Mattias Bergman, CEO of Mobility Sweden.
The continued high proportion of electric light trucks in July, which amounted to just over 15 percent, 231 vehicles was a positive highlight. So far this year, the number of electric light trucks amounts to 2,178 compared to 1,208 last year.
In recent months, several new electric models have been introduced, which increases customers’ options. It is of the utmost importance that the possibility of driving on the B driving license up to 4.25 tonnes for electric or gas vehicles is introduced in Sweden as soon as possible, as the new technology is heavier. Such a rule change has already been introduced in roughly ten EU countries.
Decline for Heavy Trucks and Increased Bus Registrations
The new registrations of heavy trucks over 16 tons amounted to 227 vehicles in July, which is a decrease of just over 22 per cent. So far this year, 2,849 new heavy trucks have been registered, which is about 11 per cent less than the same period last year. Even in this market, production disruptions as a result of the war in Ukraine and shutdowns in China are having a dampening effect, according to Bergman.
The new bus registrations increased sharply again in July, an increase of approximately 67 per cent compared to the same month last year when 30 buses were registered. The rise can be attributed to public procurement and the fact that travel is now increasing as the pandemic subsides further. So far this year, 590 new buses have been registered, which is an increase of 43 per cent. During July, every other registration was an electric bus, a total of 15 electric buses. So far this year, the share of electric buses amounts to 25 per cent, compared to approximately 34 per cent January-July 2021, concluded Bergman.
