Goodyear has launched its Sustainability Reality Survey to investigate key actions taken by road transportation companies to reduce CO2 emissions, as well as both looking to and promoting sustainable transportation objectives.
Goodyear to Plant a Tree for Each Fleet Respondent Undertaking the Survey
Fresh from unveiling its encompassing Sustainability Reality Survey, Goodyear is aiming to see European transport and logistics companies share their insights, to aid more logistical solutions into more sustainable transport.
With both regulators and industry players putting the dual issues of climate change and environmental sustainability at the top of their agendas, the survey will prove to be a continuation in the increasing move towards sustainable practices and logistical solutions across Europe. In 2019 the European Green Deal was introduced targeting a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from transport, compared with 1990 levels. In 2020, there was another big advance with the EU Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy, which included 82 initiatives for the next 4 years. The current European strategy is to support the green and digital transformation of the transport ecosystem while becoming more resilient to cope with future disruptions within the industry.
Transportation accounts for 25% of the total greenhouse gas emissions in Europe, according to the European Commission’s Climate Action investigation. CO2 emissions of new heavy-truck trucks are a particular focus of the campaign to reduce emissions, with a current reduction target of 15% by 2020 and 30% by 2030, which will be measured by VECTO.
Fleets Pushing for More “Environmentally focused” Initiatives for Future Operations
On top of the acceleration of the regulatory agenda, customers are including more environmentally focused requirements in their request for quotes, with end-consumers expressing more interest in buying more from environmentally responsible companies. In the daily operations of commercial fleets, the shift towards greener mobility is clearly apparent, while the industry remains highly competitive. On-time delivery remains an essential element of the industry that requires a modern, clear strategy and smart, intelligent actions.
The Sustainable Reality Survey initiated by Goodyear is a straightforward inquiry into what transportation partners are currently doing to reduce their carbon footprint as well as the partners’ future plans. The survey aims to reveal what truck fleets and transport companies are achieving in terms of sustainability – and the everyday commercial obstacles that are in their way. Goodyear is looking to achieving a real-life look at sustainability in practice without any form of ‘greenwashing.’ As recognition for each fleet respondent completing the survey, Goodyear has pledged to plant a tree in collaboration with Tree-Nation. The non-profit organisation is instrumental in helping to coordinate reforestation efforts worldwide.
