Having secured two podium finishes and the fastest lap at Pembrey, Giti Tire’s Martin Gibson is just five points off the leader in the 2021 British Truck Racing Championship (BTRC) with one race weekend remaining.
Shattered Brake Disc Causes Troubles but Gibson Remains a Contender for the Crown
Gibson suffered a shattered brake disc in qualifying, causing Gibson to start from the rear of the grid in race one, having to come through a clustered field to finish ninth.
Over the next four races, which included both standard and reverse grid starts, he secured first, fifth, fifth and second to keep pressure on the Championship frontrunner with the final meet of the season at Brands Hatch on November 6-7th.
His partner at Giti Tire Motorsport, Stuart Oliver overcame no less than three in-race collisions and still managed to secure both a first and second-place finish across the five races.
Gibson, Giti Tire’s Manager – EU Testing Centre and Motorsport UK, said: “Pembrey is a tight, technical track so there’s always lots of pushing and shoving, the number of collisions and retirements over the weekend certainly gave the large crowd lots of entertainment. The circuit also highlights the exceptional qualities of the Giti Race-Tuned v1 tyres which are placed under immense pressures and which continue to perform.”
Both Gibson’s and Oliver’s units race on Giti Race-Tuned v1 global competition truck tyres in size 315/70R22.5.
