September’s figures from Comité des Constructeurs Français d’Automobiles, the Automotive manufacturing association in France have shown a sustained progression on the year-to-date figures for 2020, even accounting for a dip in both light commercial vehicles under 5.1 tonnes and industrial vehicles over 5.1 tonnes.
Registration Dips in September Still Don’t Affect Overall 2021 Growth
In September, light commercial vehicles suffered a 16.6% drop. Over the 22 days in September 2021, only 35,020 commercial vehicles were registered, which pales in comparison to 2020’s 41,992. The same can be said for industrial vehicles, with 2021’s 3,532 a clear decline on 2020’s 4,007.
In total, for the first nine months of 2021, the results are undeniably healthier. Commercial vehicles total 331,927 against a clearly reduced 282,917 from 2020 when Covid-19 ravaged the market. Likewise, with industrial vehicles, the increase is healthy, with 32,700 registrations against just under 30,000 the year before. Renault’s penetration in the market is a respectable 28.9% and the clear frontrunner within the market.
As the semiconductor global chip continues to create a bottleneck effect, it can be expected that production shortages will continue to affect the market until the shortage is contained.
