In a flat or decreasing market environment, Continental will grow above 7.5 per cent this year compared to 2022 and the forecast is that in 2024 the pace will continue with +8 per cent in the replacement market
Continental Expects Further Growth in Spain
In 2023, Continental estimates it will increase by over 7.5 per cent and reach a turnover of more than 440 million euros, thanks to the growth obtained in the first equipment and tyre replacement segments. This was revealed by Pedro Teixeira, general director of Continental Tires in Spain, who stated that; “despite the uncertainties and challenges of the environment and the markets for both first-time and replacement parts, the tyre sector in Spain shows strength and continues to gain its share of the market supported by products, systems and solutions that convince.”
In what can be considered as the first year back to normality, despite the economic uncertainty, energy instability or recent socio-political events, Continental registered another year of growth in Spain and expects to achieve a turnover of more than 440 million euros. Likewise, Teixeira stated that the company anticipates that in 2024 the market will remain stable, once again registering growth and gaining share in all business units.
Pedro Teixeira took office on October 1 as general director of Continental Tires Spain, and succeeds Jon Ander García, who held the position for about 15 years. Both were the protagonists of the day during an interview conducted by journalist Marta Solano, with whom they talked about the current state of the sector and the company, took stock of recent years and tried to imagine the future of mobility.
It was in this conversation when Pedro Teixeira stated; “I am especially excited to take on the challenge of running the company in Spain, a market that I already know from having held the position of general director of the Best Drive services and maintenance network in 2012. For a good part of the team, the objective will be to continue the path of results of these years, positioning the company in the place it already occupies in other markets, including Portugal.”
For his part, Jon Ander García also wanted to look back and take stock of his years at the head of the Spanish market, indicating that; “it is not goodbye, because I will be lucky enough to continue being close to the Spanish team. It has been an honour to pilot this ship where, in addition to achieving results, creating trust and getting the entire team together to make Continental a more attractive place to work and generate talent, I will closely follow the success of the group now led by Pedro”
Technology, safety and sustainability, the three pillars of Continental
Offering drivers sustainable and safe tyres is a fundamental part of Continental. The company aims to use 100 per cent sustainable materials in its production by 2050 and is therefore constantly expanding the proportion of renewable and recycled materials in its tyres.
The German technology company has also taken another step in its circular economy processes by using recycled materials, such as agricultural waste, dandelion rubber, recycled rubber, PET bottles or recovered carbon black in the production of new tyres.
The result of this innovation work has been the launch of the UltraContact NXT tyre, manufactured with up to 65 per cent renewable, recycled materials, with ISCC PLUS certification and designed for both combustion and electric engines. This philosophy of continuous evolution and research is what has made it possible for Continental to have its work in sustainability recognised with the ISCC PLUS certification for the Lousado plant in Portugal.
In addition, the German company has continued to be faithful to its commitment to security through technology, innovating and implementing existing solutions, such as the ContiConnect 2.0 device or through updates to established products, such as the AllSeasonContact 2 tyre, which was the protagonist of the international launch in the Austrian Alps last May, where the specialised press was able to put it to the test on different surfaces, proving why has achieved so many recognitions throughout 2023.
