This year, Continental has awarded for the first time a sponsorship for trainees in agriculture and animal breeding.
Apprentice Lukas Kandler Wins a Three-Year Sponsorship from Continental
Thanks to his Instagram video, 18-year-old trainee farmer Lukas Kandler from the district of Göttingen won the 9,000 EUR prize, as well as a set of passenger car tyres from Continental, and tickets for agricultural trade fairs and exhibitions.
Lukas Kandler started helping out on his family’s farm from an early age, and from the very beginning it was clear that he wanted to become a farmer. In his presentation video, he explained what particularly interested him about his everyday life on his family’s potato farm in the Göttingen/Duderstadt district, and that got him the first place. “I think it’s great that you can plant different crops every year and harvest and process them later. I also like nature and being outdoors,” Lukas Kandler explains.
In addition to plant cultivation, he is enthusiastic about the business management aspect of a farm. “What I learn in my apprenticeship I can apply directly on the farm”, he said. Lukas is in his second year of apprenticeship and is now continuing his training at another location in order to get to know other working methods and farms. “With the sponsorship and the set of new tyres, I can continue my training at a new location,” he said.
The Campaign Aims to Highlight the Attractiveness of Agricultural Apprenticeships
Matthias Engelhardt, Head of Sales and Marketing for the Specialty Tyres DACH region commented: “We are pleased to have found a great winner in Lukas and to be able to support him in his training as a farmer. We wanted to raise awareness about careers in agriculture and support the next generation of farmers.”
From January to June 2022, first-year apprentices in agriculture and animal breeding were able to apply for a three-year financial grant by posting a video on social media. As a prerequisite, interested candidates should complete their first year of training in a dual training programme for agriculture or animal breeding as well as the inter-company training at a DEULA location.
