According to the latest data released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), December 2023 brought some adjustments in registration figures compared to the previous year.
December 2023 Statistics: A Recap
Total commercial vehicle registrations in December 2023 reached 26,888 units, marking a 15% decrease compared to December 2022. This decline, albeit significant, indicates a year-end adjustment rather than a sustained trend. Throughout 2023, a total of 259,689 commercial vehicles were registered, showcasing a 15% increase compared to the previous year.
Breaking down the numbers, commercial vehicles over 16 tonnes experienced a 6% dip in registrations for December 2023, with 3,601 units recorded. However, the overall performance for 2023 remained robust, witnessing a 25% increase compared to 2022, with a total of 68,982 units registered.
The bus segment faced a more substantial decline, with 608 units registered in December 2023, representing a 27% decrease from the same month in 2022. Nevertheless, the cumulative figures for 2023 indicate a 12% growth, totaling 5,493 bus registrations.
In the category of commercial vehicles up to 6 tonnes, December 2023 saw a 16% decrease in registrations, with 21,416 units recorded. Despite this month-end adjustment, the overall performance for 2023 remained positive, boasting a 13% increase compared to 2022, with a total of 266,021 units registered.
