Yesterday, Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing announced that it has formally notified employee representatives of its intention to initiate a collective dismissal procedure.
Plants Affected
This decision will be affecting plants in Puente San Miguel (Cantabria), the agricultural truck and bus radial tyre plant and Basauri (Basque Country), the truck and bus radial tyre plant. According to Bridgestone, this decision is driven by the profound changes in the European tyre market and the need to adapt the company’s production structure.
The challenging macroeconomic environment characterised by inflation, uncertainty and regulatory changes has caused significant contraction in the agricultural radial and truck and bus radial tyre sectors. The rise of non-European manufacturers who have progressively gained an increasing market share caused heightened competitive pressure. Bridgestone stated that the challenging market situation and market structural changes increased the need for an adjustment of production capacity in order to improve competitiveness and pursue sustainability in the industry.
Bridgestone Hispania Manufacturing reaffirmed its commitment to an open and transparent dialogue process, acknowledging the uncertainty and potential impact this process may have on employees. The company is conducting the process in the most responsible and respectful way possible towards its workforce, in collaboration with employee representatives and in line with its values of integrity and social responsibility.
