Signing a five-year exclusive deal with Continental, Arriva, with over 2,400 buses, is a major player in the Italian bus industry.
Continental Provide Tyres and Pressure Monitoring Service for Arriva
Utilising Continental’s latest tyres, as well as its tyre monitoring technology to control the temperature and pressure of the tyres, Arriva will also receive training on road safety and regular communication to round off the offer.
This is the second time that Continental has been awarded the contract by Arriva Italia, due to the company’s focus on safety, innovation and mobility for the future. Continental stood out among the main market players that took part in the tender because of its integrated offer of products, cutting-edge digital solutions, technological monitoring, sensor systems and additional training services.
The innovative technical element proposed by Continental at Arriva is an evolution of its ContiConnect Live digital tyre control platform, capable of controlling the variations in temperature and pressure. Thanks to the upgrade designed by Continental, the solution can send this information to the ContiConnect online platform via a telematics unit available to not just the driver but also the fleet managers and Continental.
This solution not only guarantees a high level of safety because it allows immediate intervention if there are anomalies, but the solution also perfectly meets Arriva’s needs to have a broader control of fleet operations and overall safety protocols. By being able to remotely monitor their vehicles through a telematics unit at any time and place Arriva can maintain more precise management of all vehicles across cities, villages and mountainous areas, which is a huge boost for fleet managers.
“After several years of collaboration, we are proud to continue the journey together with a leading company in the sector like Arriva, with whom we share aspirations and values. We want to consider ourselves more than a “simple” supplier: we are a partner to carry out long-term projects – adds Enrico Moncada, Sales Director of Continental Italia -. For us, safety is a priority. Every day we use our technology and product skills to develop innovative solutions that help ensure maximum fleet efficiency at all times. ”
Continental’s training is also a part of the package and is a way to bridge the evolving technological changes in the arena of transportation. Aviva fleet managers and maintenance personnel will receive training on the correct use and maintenance of tyres, technologies connected to them and for the tachograph system in place.
Retreads a Possibility with Arriva
The contract started in July 2021 and will last until 2026. It provides an integrated management service by Continental for the tyres of the entire Arriva Italia bus fleet. This consists of 9 different fleets and a total of over 2,400 vehicles operating in urban and rural areas, mainly in northern Italy, in the provinces of Aosta, Turin, Brescia, Bergamo, Como, Cremona, Venice, Udine and Trieste. For the regional transport network, ContiCoach Regio and Hybrid tyres will be fitted, with ContiUrban tyres the natural fit for urban traffic.
As Arriva also uses high-quality retreaded tyres, the company can take advantage of Continental’s ContiLifeCycle package with retreading and casing management services. By extending the useful life of its tyres, this is a core belief of Continental to offer fleets across the world tyres that are increasingly oriented towards environmental sustainability, by reducing the consumption of resources.
