Improving the safety of its fleet, Hertfordshire-based Soil & Water Solutions has installed Wheely-Safe’s latest TPMS system for its fleet of eight 32-tonne tippers. Wheely-Safe’s latest generation of intelligent tyre pressure monitoring systems focuses on wheel loss and wheel rim temperature sensors.
Wheely-Safe Ensure Health and Safety for Soil & Water Solutions
Soil & Water Solutions, part of the Toureen Group has prioritised health and safety by utilising Wheely-Safe’s latest generation of TPMS. This system will help ensure that the company’s drivers, as well as other vulnerable road users, are protected.
Before choosing Wheely-Safe, the company were looking for a system that monitored the health of its tyres and wheels. Mark Weller, Haulage Director of Soil & Water Solutions explained why they chose Wheely-Safe. “As a FORS Gold member we take safety incredibly seriously and this system fitted seamlessly onto our Scania XT tippers. The trucks are regularly working on aggressive off-road surfaces, so the tyres and wheels are susceptible to damage.”
He added, “Thankfully, we’ve never had an issue with loose wheel nuts before but you can’t second guess these things. This technology eliminates the risk as we know that at the very first sign of a problem, an alert will be sent to the driver, who can pull over and investigate fully. Plus, we have the reassurance that the sensors are constantly monitoring tyre pressures and hub temperatures too.”
Soil & Water Solutions will apply Wheely-Safe’s eternal sensors to the normal valve caps on each of its tyres. These are fitted alongside a pair of wheel loss and temperature sensors on each wheel, with solar-powered receivers fitted in the cab. Battery-powered boosters are mounted under the chassis to ensure signals from even the rear axle are transmitted to the receiver with ease.
Wheely-Safe provided training to help fit the system, that was installed by Weller, alongside the firm’s tyre dealer Road Rubber Tyres. “It was really simple to fit, is proving easy to operate and the driver feedback has been very positive,” noted Weller.
“Daily walkaround inspections are now so much easier, no matter what the weather conditions; plus it gives our drivers the confidence that if a tyre or wheel issue develops mid-journey, they will be notified immediately and can take the appropriate action.”
