The Spanish vehicle registrations for August showed an upwards tick, but expectations are for a continuation of a depressed market.
Spanish Market Sees Growth in August
The month of August saw some growth in Spanish passenger car and SUV registrations of 9.1% compared to the same month of the previous year. Whilst the market grew there is no expected change in the overall outlook according to ANFAC. In fact, the data for the last month is 30.3% lower than the 74,490 passenger cars sold in August 2019, before the pandemic. As for the accumulated figure for the year up to August, sales of passenger cars and SUVs totalled a drop of 9.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, with 533,042 units, which sets the scene for the wider market.
In August, registrations of light commercial vehicles registered a rise of 8.8% and a total of 9,039 units. In the accumulated of the year, 77,184 units have been sold, which represents a decrease of 29.9%. the leading markets were for 4,229 units registered in Madrid and 928 in Cataluña.
The registrations of commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and microbuses maintained the increase in their sales in August with growth of 32.8% and 1,418 units sold. For the total of the year, 15,819 units were accumulated, 11.1% more compared to the same period of the previous year.
IVECO was the most popular brand with 273 units and Mercedes came second with 204. Iveco leads the market over the course of the year. As with LCVs, Madrid saw the highest sales with 281 units sold in August, followed by Cataluña with 171.
107 Buses in August (+174.4%) and 1,381 units registered in 2022 to date (43%) – Irizar with 30 units the most popular in August, but Mercedes with 331 units the most popular in 2022. Cataluña most popular with 32 units.
