Goodyear is kicking off the new racing season at the European Truck Racing Championship as a long-standing partner and title sponsor of the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship (ETRC).
Goodyear Races Off in the European Truck Racing Championship
The leading European tournament for truck racing stops at nine racetracks across Europe. After Misano in Italy last weekend, these include the new venue Poznań in Poland on June 24th and 25th and legendary European circuits such as the Nürburgring, site of the Truck Grand Prix in July, and Le Mans in September. After a total of 32 races, the winner of the season will be determined. All participants use the latest truck racing tyres from Goodyear, the series’ sole official tyre supplier. The identical equipment ensures comparable conditions in the competition.
Top performance and sustainability
Racing truck tyres feature a number of common technologies developed at Goodyear for both motorsport and on-road use. The tyres used in the Goodyear FIA ETRC show similarities to the tyres used by truck fleets in road transport across Europe.
The reinforced carcass developed by Goodyear offers commercial vehicles an increased level of durability and robustness. The Goodyear racing tyre is similar in size to a road tyre at 315/70R22.5 and offers performance characteristics similar to many Goodyear road tyres. The special rubber compound and the characteristic, asymmetrical profile design, on the other hand, are reserved for the tyre for racing use.
Trucks weigh significantly more than a normal racing car. A tyre for racing trucks must therefore combine the stability of a truck tyre with the performance characteristics of a racing tyre. Tyres make a significant contribution to the sustainable implementation of racing tournaments. Goodyear helps reduce waste at the race by extending tyre life through retreading.
Tyres used in the Goodyear FIA ETRC racing series are then retreaded and reused as regular road tyres and can therefore be used by transport fleets. Truck tyre retreading is a common practice, but Goodyear is breaking new ground by expanding into motorsport.
The European Truck Racing Championship recently received an honourable mention in the Sustainable Championships Index for its commitment to increasing the sustainability of truck racing. For the sustainability of their solutions and concepts for motorsport, the ETRC achieved a rank of 16 out of a total of 105 places.
Goodyear will be present at all sites of this year’s Truck Racing Championship with a mobile showroom as part of its Drive Results Tour 2023. Visitors to this showroom experience the holistic Goodyear Total Mobility concept with selected innovative tyres and mobility solutions from Goodyear in an interactive experience.
“2023 is another important year for our commitment to international motorsport. We are looking forward to an exciting season for the Goodyear FIA European Truck Racing Championship and to building on the success of the past few years. As title sponsor, it is our obligation to offer the best performance on the race track. We do the same with our truck tyres every day on the roads of Europe millions of times,” says Maciej Szymanski, Director Marketing Commercial Europe, Goodyear.
“The ETRC offers us a unique test environment for researching new technologies. Here we find conditions under which we can systematically increase the durability of our tyres. We are also very pleased to have the opportunity to present the advantages of our holistic mobility concept, Goodyear Total Mobility, to representatives of the European transport industry. In our modern show truck, our visitors can experience many innovative tires and solutions from Goodyear interactively,” adds Szymanski.
